| The last bit should be "I can't wake up" in the end. | |

I think it’s like what Drowning--lessons said. How this is a follow-up to “Mama”, and his night terrors are about all the shit he have done in his life, especially in the war. And I think when he goes to sleep, he is haunted by the images. But he doesn’t want forgiveness for what he did, because he doesn’t regret it. And because of that, he just goes to sleep and keeps tormenting himself with reliving all the shit he did. But someone tries to help him, get him out of his horrible night terrors and try to live in the present instead of what has been, thus the desperate screaming of “wake up”, and maybe the patient really wants to just forget and go on with his life, but he realises it to late, and he’s to deep in it and there is no return, thus the “I can’t wake up in the end”. |

| I agree with thealex9123. I think that's a great interpretation. | |

I think the songs between WTTBP and disenchanted are flashbacks of different periods of the patients life. And this flashback seems to be about a time when he was a really arrogant f*cker that didn't care about anyone except himself. He treats people like sh*t and doesn't care if someone gets hurt. He doesn't care if he goes to heaven or to hell, but probably hell. And he have a "Oh, come on father, try to save my now!"-mocking-sarcastic-attitude. Instead of interpret this one-sentence-at-a-time, this is the over-all-feeling I get when I hear this song. |

I think JDea has a good point. But I got the feeling that the "narrator" wasn't exactly perfect either. I don't know why, maybe because of "A product of his father" He became something he didn't like and inherited the same bad qualitys and opinions as his father. And he is too much of a coward to be himself: "reveal his true stripes". If it's "a slave to his pride", I think it means that he has too much pride (maybe a bad quality he inherited from his father) to admit that this relationship is wrong for them both. The girl realised she didn't love (maybe she never loved him)him but she stayed with him because she wanted things from him. Maybe she noticed that he knew that she didn't love him and just didn't care. But what she didn't know was that he didn't love her back: "Realizations, I am not what you thought I was" and she was just a trophy wife in this so called "relationship/marriage": "In moderation, what was once us now never was " and that fits with him being a slave to his pride and the "Shallow love, shallow lives With every word, you speak Of what you wanted from me" Both of them had something to do with why this relationship didn't work out. |
