| This song is excelent. Its about the beauty of women. The loss of lust and the gain of self. The transition of child to man. Lust turns to inspiration. The realization of lust and the loss of innocence. Leaving the easy for the hard road. Those who understand this song understand my thoughts!!!! | |
| System of a Down – B.Y.O.B. Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| snailshell............ Marching forward hypocritic and hypnotic computers........ If you feel that I sit back and waist my time here at "home" leaching off of your hard work, that is your opinion and you are wrong! If I feel that the premise of the war in Iraq is for financial gain of the elite few, that is my opinion. Amazing how your fightin terrorist in Iraq when the supposed threat came from Afghanistan??????? If you really want to feel patriotic why don’t you quit the military... Do the starving, homeless and sick right here in our own country a favor and put your patriotism and the money the government expends on your overseas trip to good use by using those resources for the good of our own people. God forbid we get rid of primitive technology for current technology ex: Oil for Electric..... But hey, the rarer oil is allowed to become the more valuable it is, and some people have enough money and pull to make that long term goal a reality. Even if it cost human lives. But as long as people like you keep feeding into the bullshit, the longer progress is going to take. This song is not an attack on your patriotism. Its about your inability to overlook the situation at hand and see the faults, as well as the ability for the government to keep people like you feeding off the corporate teat and asking for more. We need to get rid of Bush. The Euro is worth double the American dollar is. Japanese cars are made in the US and exported back to Japan because its cheaper. America is killing poor Americans who would like to better their lives through money earned for college to make rich people rich. Its like dangling a carrot in front of a donkey to get it to walk. Get a clue!!!!!!!!! | |

After reading everyone’s opinion I think ill share mine. I can't help but feel that this song is directed towards his father. I will try to word this so no sense of ownership is given. If you look at the lyrics, it all fits. He had a lot to say (father)..... We'll miss him (family)..... What would you say to an overbearing preachy father? When someone is lead to believe that they need to have faith in what is taught to them. When they are pointed down at for their actions or decisions in life. When those rants are directed without searching ones heart for the forgiveness and or understanding of the actions of those who are made of the same blood. When your lead to believe that a farther is a protector and would give his life for his spawn. When that’s drilled into someone through arrogance, instilling a sense of righteousness over a child’s existence. That’s what the beginning of the song says to me. No way to recall What it was that you had said to me, Like I care at all But it was so loud You sure could yell You took a stand on every little thing And so loud Standing above the crowd, He had a voice so strong and loud and I Swallowed his façade 'cause I'm so Eager to identify with Someone above the ground, Someone who seemed to feel the same, Someone prepared to lead the way, with Someone who would die for me Will you? Will you now? Would you die for me? Don't you fucking lie Don't you step out of line Don't you step out of line Don't you step out of line Don't you fucking lie That sounds like growing up in a household where an individual is not being able to live up to a fathers expectations. Yet they try to impress when they are young. A person wants to do the best they can, to gain that affection of the person they can't impress. When we are children we usually don't know any better...... As someone gets older they may realize the hypocrisy of the words being spoken to them, and question what is being preached. Stepping out of line....... You've claimed all this time that you would die for me Why then are you so surprised when you hear your own eulogy? You had a lot to say You had a lot of nothing to say Come down Get off your fucking cross We need the fucking space to nail the next fool martyr To ascend you must die You must be crucified For our sins and our lies Goodbye... Now in the final hours of life, one might confront the things that have been built up for years. The chance to finalize the emotions. To show the hurt and make peace, only to be reconfirmed in the hatred of someone through their lack of compassion and blinding faith in religious right. The very last lines have a huge part of this short story. All that was taught in life was a sense of the fathers righteousness being. That his sons lack of faith and sins will be forgiven once the father ascended into heaven. And the only response to such arrogance is "Goodbye"........How this could be about Jesus and any others almost makes no sense. Jesus: “Not all martyrs see divinity”?????? How about all the others mentioned…. In the song a lot of instances are portrayed as person to person conversations. That might work for the comedian Bill Hicks but not the others. So, I don’t think a eulogy of this nature would be given for what is said to be a friend such as Bill Hicks. If this album is supposedly about reaching the next step of evolution through cleansing the conscience of all things uncomfortable and hated (Anima). What better way to unload and deal with family issues than sharing it with everyone…. I feel this song is completely about the hardships faced with an religious overbearing arrogant father. |
