It took me so long to realize the sexual reference in the line: "She gave me some dictation/ but my strength is in administration" She performed sexual activities on him, but he is better at performing sexual activities on her. "DICtation," etc. Good job, B&S. That was sly. |

Well, ok, you guys, in my opinion, some of you are right. However, this is my interpretation: A writer is spending the summer in some city. He meets the girl, Baby Boomerang, who is a semi-prostitute (she is when she needs money, kind of like Holly Golightly in Breakfast a ttiffany's played by Audrey Hepburn) with a heart of gold ("she would never spike a person"). She is this way because she is a nymphomaniac because she suffered trauma from being molested and/or raped by her uncle with "an alligator chained to his leg" or a very strong sexual appetite who, I guess, probably became her guardian after she was orphaned and dangles her freedom by saying that if she doens't give in, he'll abuse her or not let her out of the house. The writer feels that he can help her which makes him feel like he can really change her fro the better, but every time he gets closer to her, he remembers that she can't really control herself and that she is too unstable to have a relationship, even though she wants to, so he uses the excuse that he needs to work on his novel. Realizing that he doesn't trust her, she is hurt because he is the first one that she has REALLY loved and decides to leave. |
