I tend to think The National lyrics to tend more toward being personal than political, but I don't undestand many of them so maybe I'm mistaken. So, although the unfit white-collar worker theme seems more in line with other song themes, the Bush-Iraq War theme is still intriguing. Not only does "Squalar Victoria," at least for me, instantly convey the image of Iraq, but the way the US entered fits in with "Out of my league, I have birds in my sleeves and I wanna rush in with the fools" (what are "birds in my sleeves"? Maybe this is fanfare warfare?). On the other hand "3:30 in the night" and "zoning out" don't work as well as metaphors. |

Yeah, this song has really grown on me. I don't think the above lyrics are correct. Let me suggest: and if you follow me son the wind will wrap around you carry you from the ground you will never be alone your weight will turn to sunlight that's falling on a girl who's still inside the world she's reading books from empty women they're giving beauty tips from empty hips and how is the water of the rain and how is the air of the wind and how are the arms of your mother she's holding you in watch them as they try to fly their kites inside their bedrooms that were only built for drinking your thoughts they never lasted long while you were under the sky above it you can hold a thought forever (refrain) (repeat) |
