i'd say this song is not about a bad relationship, but a short-lived relationship and she broke it off before he could prove himself and before they could really get to know each other. "she doesn't care about the times we never shared at all".. maybe he knows they could have had a great, long-lasting relationship, but she broke it off prematurely. and doesn't care that she didn't give him the chance he felt he deserved. |

well i'm not a religious person myself, but i still love Haste The Day and i'd like to share my thoughts on these lyrics. i think the song is using a failed relationship as a metaphor for turning away from God, well at least the "i never should have let you go" part. when he's saying "stay with me forever", he means he's dedicated his life to Christ and realizes he was wrong. the first parts of the song could mean that he's dedicated his life, or "given his heart" to things unimportant. and that's where the title of the song comes from. |

This song describes a situation i'm in right now, almost exactly. There was a girl who I really cared about.. and I thought she cared for me too, but it turns out she still had feelings for her last ex. And she left me for him, even though he treated her badly when they were going out before and I did all I could to make her happy. That's what the song means to me. A guy loves a girl and can't stand the fact that she's with someone else when he knows he deserves her much more than the guy she left him for. There's nothing he can do about it, so he clings onto the memories, even though she's trying to forget about him and his feelings for her. |
