Gotye – Somebody That I Used To Know Lyrics 13 years ago
As everyone else is saying, sounds like a breakup song, but I read a bit more from it...

He says how he's used to the sadness and a few lines later said that he was a bit happy that she was gone (they broke up). It almost sounds like he's used to this and, in a twisted way, he liked how he felt giving the girl the run around and how they were still in contact after the breakup (maybe he liked how he felt in control). This girl, though, seems to have taken the high road and cut her losses, ending all contact when they broke up because she realized he was a bit off.

If you notice, he says he's happy it's over, yet is almost complaining about her cutting him off and 'stooping so low' as to have her friends collect her things, when this really isn't that abnormal for a hard breakup (it doesn't mean people hate each other, just that they are moving on and away from the past relationship sometimes).

Also, she says, "You said that you could let it go / and I wouldn't catch you hung up on somebody that you used to know." I wonder if this means he's done this before and that was part of the reason for breaking up (he still was acting a certain way to his ex) or if she means he's still bothering her while she has moved on.

Mika – Good Gone Girl Lyrics 15 years ago
Thanks everythingelse for posting the right lyrics!

I think this song is about young girls, in general, doing "whatever it takes" to make it big in California, and inevitably falling for a lot of fake opportunities because of how young and pure they are. Georgia and April are probably the same girl (changed name was mention, I'd support that theory) and the whole song seems like an evolution from a good girl, to a spiteful girl, to a girl just trying to get by.

"Coming at you like a desperate hunter
Sugar daddy, he's just a munter

Hey you, what's a good girl like you
Doing in this crazy world"

I think this part says it best, implying that the girl thinks she can hook up with someone rich to get her by or get her into some famous profession, and the "hey girl..." part reminds me of a horrible pick-up line. But, all her hopeful hook-ups are sadly just people taking advantage of her.

"She's walking around all over town
Needs somebody to notice, but the goodness gets her down
She's happy to choose somebody to use
Good gone girl she's got nothing left to loose"

That last part is the girl being beaten down by her failure and just looking for anyone or anything at this point, and probably the corruption of character she's facing since she's had to face the reality of people and the real world.

"She's happy to choose somebody to use"
This may be her turning into the people that she encountered in her evolution of corruption, as she was used many times and brought down to their level.

The Airborne Toxic Event – Sometime Around Midnight Lyrics 17 years ago
Okay, so I agree with the comments that it's an ex, a girl he was once with, and he hasn't seen her in a while until now.

Analyzing while relating to this song, it seems that he did forget about her until now when he sees her again, then the memories of all the good times come rushing back to him and he's in a daze. It mentions him being drunk off of wine, but seems that his inebriation is also influenced by seeing her again.

I love the line, "...you just have to see her, and you know that she'll break you
in two." You know it'll tear you apart, whether it be because she's changed (or maybe from problems that caused them to split in the first place) or because he's so heart-set on her that it'll kill him to see her further with that other man.

Very nice song, I can relate.

@ unplural: You're rude, GTFO.

I'm curious if anyone can explain to me the "Lucas and the locusts" reference. That's the one thing I haven't heard before.

Plain White T's – Hey There Delilah Lyrics 18 years ago
I love this song and it always gets to me, the guy I'm not engaged to and living with always lived far away (we met online, actually) and he is, in fact, two years older than me. We went through a lot of hard times and he would always get me listening to different songs that reminded him of our situation. It's sorta funny that now that we've been living together 7 months there's a song out that describes what we went through with distance. I think my favourite part is:

"If every simple song I wrote to you
Would take your breath away, I'd write it all"

Paul Simon – You Can Call Me Al Lyrics 18 years ago
I've always liked this song, but it's been in my head again recently (I even added it to my MySpace).

I came here looking for what it means and agree with a lot of people, so I would like to sum up what I think (after looking over the lyrics).

I can easily see how it's one man or three men, either way... The man is going about his daily routine and realizes where he is in life, how he's still soft and life's still hard and how he wants an opportunity to make something of his life. He had the goal of a family and kids, etc., and wants to know what happened that he is where he is... And he does not want to continue on this path, surely doing the same thing every day until he dies. In the end he travels (Africa does sound right) and at first feels a bit uncomfortable, not having money or knowing the language, but finally realizes that this is the change he was looking for and he can be happy... With the simplicity of things instead of the busy American world.

I'm sure there's more in there about friendship, but I didn't know how to put that into my summing up. :-P
