| Sonic Youth – Shoot Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
But right before that she says "I won't be asking your permission to leave," meaning she knows she does not need a man's permission to make herself happy. Therefore, "I won't be asking not to have this baby please," would mean she is saying she DOES want an abortion, but she doesn't need to ask her man's permission to do that. That's how I took it anyway. |

| Wasn't this about his relationship/break up with Toby Vail? | |
| Nirvana – Mr. Moustache Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
This song definitely has a meaning. It's Kurt's perspective of him like..talking to one of those stereotypical macho males and saying why they're stupid and how he's not like that. And how he doesn't think they should take pride in being douchebags. |

| Kajagoogoo – Too Shy Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| *ahem* Yes, this is the quintessence of 80's music. Yes, it's ridiculously catchy and fun to listen to. Yes, it has absolutely no quality musical content, because most of the songs from the 80's didn't-they were all just really fun. | |
| Sleater-Kinney – Anonymous Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
I think the song is summed up in the verse, "Feel safe inside, inside those well drawn lines Boyfriend, a job, a car my white girl life She swallowed a spider to catch to catch that fly But I don't know why, why she swallowed that lie" Women have a hard time breaking out of their stereotypical sexist roles because it's easy to just go along with it-it's simple to obey your boyfriend, to get a job and have a car and live the way everyone else does. S-K is saying how they don't get why people would blindly follow that way of life beacause it's so..wrong. |

| Sleater-Kinney – I Wanna Be Your Joey Ramone Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
I love this song. It's about how she's got as much talent as the male rock icons, but she's not recognized because she's a female. While my interpretations may have made her sound conceited, it's not like that; it's just a comment on the social gender boundaries in the music industry--especially since this is from one of their earlier albums (my personal favorite one) and was during the peak of the Riot Grrrl movement. |
|
| Sleater-Kinney – Taking Me Home Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
It's not about not wanting to settle down, and most likely not even about her own personal relationship. It's just a general statement against itemizing women; oftentimes women get treated by men as though they are just a trophy or an item that someone can put a price on--Sleater-Kinney's just trying to say how wrong and fucked up that is and they won't be those kind of girls who let it happen. |

| Nirvana – Polly (Early Cracker) Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
Ugh, this song IS about a true story, and yes, it is also an anti-rape song. And Courtney didn't kill him or influence him to do so. Kurt was suicidal ever since his parents' divorce when he was 7 (or 9? I can't remember). Regardless, he suffered all of his life, most of which was before he even met Courtney. He loved her, and disrespecting his wife is dishonoring him. |

| Butthole Surfers – Pepper Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| Alright Timmeh, that makes sense. And if it came from Gibby, well, I can't defy it. And now I feel bad that I interpreted it as being about acid XD | |
| Butthole Surfers – Pepper Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
This song MAY just be about enjoying life, but to me it sounds like it's about acid. I mean the Butthole Surfers did a lot of acid as it is. "I don't mind the sun sometimes, the images it shows" Sun-sunshine acid. Images it shows-the way acid obscures your sense of reality. "I can taste you on my lips and smell you in my clothes/Cinnamon and sugary and softly spoken lies"-again, it obscures your sense. "You never know just how to look through other people's eyes"-saying that other people don't realize how he sees them, which is really distorted due to the acid. I don't know, I could be totally wrong, but the song juts feels like one big acid trip to me. |

| Nirvana – Sappy Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| Well I think we've obviously established that the song is about God, and how people follow Him blindly, thinking they're happy when they're not. But I was stuck on the "laundy room" line for so long. I know it's said that one version of the song was recorded in a laundry room, but I felt like there must be a different meaning (okay, so I'm just overly-analytical). Anyway, the conlusion I finally came to about tha tline is that it's like..a person is faced with the oppertunity of a new start--a clean, fresh start, if you will--but insetad they still follow God, even though He fucks them all over. | |
| Guns N' Roses – Sweet Child O' Mine Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| Maybe it's just me, but something about writing a song about YOUR GIRLFRIEND and calling it Sweet CHILD O' Mine seems rather degrading. Not that I've ever been a fan of Axl's blatant sexism, but this sealed the deal for me. | |
| The Breeders – Happiness Is a Warm Gun Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
I LOVE this cover of Happiness is a Warm Gun..probably my favorite version of it. It's always been about Heroin, and it's always been a rather dark song, but The Breeders took it one step further so you can REALLY feel it. Oh, but in the lyrics, at the end during the last "Happiness is a warm gun, happiness is a warm gun" you left out the "Bang bang shoot shoot" part. I actually hadn't caught it upon listening to this version the first time, but now that I have I actually really like that part. |

Oh and the translations are: Forse Significheremo crescere' di piu ---> Maybe its significant that we go through this [[italian]] Que esta de tras de la puerta numero dos: Whats behind door number two? [[spanish]] |

| Through You – Culo Lyrics | 18 years ago |

Culo means ass in spanish. And in the words of King [their drummer] it's about: "haha, well it is actually about culo. it's abotu spanish ass, about switching, lol, finding new girls" |

| Epica – Veniality Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| I think this about how like..you need to forgive yourself for the things you've done in the past. She says how it's hard to forgive yourself, and you will always regret the past, but you won't find peace with yourself until you do. | |
| Epica – The Phantom Agony Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
"A te spiritus noster devoratur et nostra anima capitur" means: Our spirit is devoured and our soul is captured by you This song is beautiful. I like the mix of voices so you really get the feel of it. I agree with dark ivory that it's about realizing that you don't really know anything about yourself, and trying to figure out who you are and what life is about. |

| Epica – Façade of Reality (The Embrace That Smothers Part V) Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
I LOVE Epica and yea, this song is definitely about terrorism and how people use religion as their excuse to do things that are corrupt and hateful. Anyways, I thought you guys may like the translations for the latin parts, so here they are: Sanguis meus tibi non iam perbibendus sit Macula aeterintatis Numquam detergenda Quisnam surget et deteget Imaginem veritates? translates into: May my blood no longer be for you to drink A spot for eternity Never to be wiped away Who then will rise and lay bare The likeness of truth? O servator, sempiterne Te grati coluimus, Odor atrox quo nons superfundis intolerabilis est translates into: O savior, eternally We have become strong for your sake The bloody odor which was not poured over is unable to endure; andddd: Sanguis meus tibi non iam perbibendus sit May my blood be drunk by you no longer |
|
| Evanescence – Whisper Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| Oh, and for those of you asking what the part at the end is, yes, it is in Latin. It says, "servatis a periculum, servatis a maleficum," which means, "save us from danger, save us from evil." | |
| Evanescence – Tourniquet Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
This is definitely meant to be about how suicide ties into religion. She is asking for forgiveness because she really wants to die, but knows that it is a sin to do so. She questions how "right" her actions are as she says, "Am I too lost to be saved? Am I too lost?" meaning like.."Is suicide too sinful for me to ascend into Heaven? Can you forgive me? Am I hopeless?" We see the inner conflict in the part where she sings, "My wounds cry for the graveMy soul cries for deliverance" so it's like, she really wants to die, but she doesn't want to be sinful or go to Hell. Great song. Greattttt song. |

ermm i messed up on the lyrics. its supposed to be "so you’d never tell her not to believe in me." && I love this song for the same reason Katy does; its uplifting, but kind of dark at the same time. |
