Tom Tom Club – Wordy Rappinghood Lyrics 16 years ago
I agree... I'm pretty sure it's "I'm overstood". You know how you "understand" something. Well, it's the end of the song so you're "overstood"...

Also could rap it up for the common good be "wrap it up" as in use condoms?

Lastly, if anyone can figure out what they say before "What are words worth?" I would appreciate it. I have no clue!

Pete Yorn – Close Lyrics 16 years ago
Such a beautiful sounding song about a difficult topic, not breaking up a relationship for the sake what you had in the past. My favorite off the new album. Also, favorite line is "learn to live this life" which has such pain in the idea of staying even when unhappy and learning to live with it. Great song!

Will Young – Changes Lyrics 17 years ago
This is literally where my life is right now and when I first heard the song I almost lost it. I'm actually looking at finding a job outside of the US where I live because I want something to change (dead end job, distracted friends) and this song perfectly sums up that feeling especially "I don’t get much so there’s nothing much to lose" Does anyone have any author credits?

Tori Amos – Big Wheel Lyrics 18 years ago
The more I listen to this song, the more I think it has to do with religion (particularly Christianity) than anything. She talks about whiskey and stale bread (similar to wine and Eucharist), "superstar" like someone said "Jesus Christ Superstar," "I've been on the other side" could mean a secular life and now religion wants her to be its "possession." Also "don't you throw your shade on me" could refer to the "light" of God, and even though she's "been on her knees" she finds the church is still "hard to please." The cash in hell references could also relate to how churches (like the Catholic Church) have a lot of money. Lastly, the counting could refer to doing penance (like three Hail Mary's, etc.)

I'm sure it may also have to do with her troubles with music execs but she could be comparing the two.

The Beach Boys – Break Away Lyrics 18 years ago
I love this song just as it is! It's also really sad but I love it and cry at the same time!

This song is actually about how crazy Brian Wilson was back in the day.

Note:

When I layed down on my bed
I heard voices in my head
Telling me now "Hey it's only a dream"
The more I thought of it
I had been out of it
And here's the answer I found instead

Found out it was in my head

It's about when he found out that he had a mental illness. Luckily, he improved and that's what the song is about. That and his wife and other groovy vibrations that Mr. Wilson likes to throw around.

Phoenix – I'm an Actor Lyrics 18 years ago
My fav line is "The consequences, I leave those things for someone else." When I think of celeb culture and Paris Hilton, I think this is so true... Also this is one of the most straight-forward songs I've heard, there's no guesswork...

Phoenix – Consolation Prizes Lyrics 18 years ago
I love this song too! But I think the comments on it's meaning are not hitting the mark. The speaker broke up with his mate, a girlfriend prolly but it's gender neutral ("Goodbyes seal my broken heart"). Also, you only get a "consolation prize" until you lose a game or in this case a partner.

In the first half, he's taunting her about her complaining and crying about being broken up. The chorus confirms this: he's making fun of her juvenile reaction of cutting her hair. A stereotypical reaction to breaking up is you want to change how you look so the other person's jealous. But to him it doesn't matter what she does, he'll just "love her more."

in the second half, he's thought that maybe he didn't do enough to save the relationship but now he can't do anything except wait until his ex comes around and wants to be with him again (both "there's no other option on the schedule" and "No matter what it takes, never give up on you.") Lastly, he says "I want you to change it all" meaning do whatever she has to do to get over the breakup because he'll be there to "make it better" or be her "consolation prize!"

I hope this long essay written while this writer should be working on something else helps!
