to me this song is about a mother and son first verse being about how she knows you better than anyone, and her being there for you always. chorus is about how one day she'll pass away, because i think most moms have a habit of telling their son or daughter that they won't be around forever to take care of them. 2nd verse continues with her knowing about your secrets and problems, of which other people might not accept if they found out next is about becoming a man with the bit about money, and not listening to her when you should chorus, again a reminder last verse is about being stubborn and fighting with her, saying things you might regret, pretending you hate her, because we all know sons and daughters "hate" their parents at some point in their lives. and ultimately, accepting that she has lived longer than you and knows more about life. chorus, one last reminder that's how i interpret it |

After a family member dies, there is always an awkward moment at every family gathering where everyone stops and recognizes that there's someone missing. It can be brought on by old stories and even noticing that there aren't as many chairs around the table. It's just like that with the loss of a friend. Maybe it happens when you pull up to a house and don't see their car, or again, old stories can cause that moment of sadness. i'm so sick of people interpreting this song wrong. Yes you can interpret it any way you want, but just know, this IS NOT ABOUT A FUCKING RELATIONSHIP!!!! it's about anxiety, denial, insecurity, self consciousness, change, awareness, growing up, inner conflict, despair, hope, altruism, etc. etc. anyone who thinks this song is happy needs their head examined. about the only thing that makes me feel better is that someone else might be going through the same things, or something similar at the very end i feel like the song is making fun of me , the guitar riffs are so powerful, like my inner demons are mocking me or something.. listen to the last riffs, and then think of the words ha ha ha... ha ha ha. .. ha ha ha ha.. ha ha ha.. i think the people that think of every single fing song as being about a relationship just don't think oustide the box, or have never had an inner conflict. |

gahh this song sounds exactly like modest mouse.. particularly the song off "this is a long drive" called "exit does not exist" i swear if one didn't know any better they'd think this was modest mouse.. however mm's sound (on long drive atleast) was alot more skeletal if you catch my drift.. this song sounds so full.. |
