i agree with all of you, i can see everyones side to this song, but i think the literal meaning of it is completely different and i think you all will agree after i explain. i think this song is about falling in love with a prostitute. heres why I threw you the obvious and you flew with it on your back. - im showing you that i love you but you just take it and play along cuz its your job. a name in your recollection down among a million same. - you know who i am but you probably dont care cuz im just another "client" if you will i look right through see you naked but oblivious. and you dont see me - he looks through the fact that she is a prostitute and loves her unconditionally, but she is just there for sex, "naked" and oblivious to the fact that he loves her. Fallen angel... eyes of a tragedy... the wounded - everyone starts out innocent and full of potential, an angel. but im guessing a prostitute has a pretty rough childhood that makes them become what they are, and they become a fallen angel, a tragedy to society, and wounded emotionally. the video also gives evidence to make me believe this. maybe even falling in love with multiple girls, 3 libras maybe? Incredible song one of my favorites, i love it cuz i can relate to it metaphorically, as can most ppl, loving someone and not getting loved back. mjk is one of the best writers of all time. |

| for starters ppl that say this song is garbage or his low point, "Cough deep blue day Neo Cough", dont know what they are talking about. Michaels songs through the generations were about whats going on in that paticular time or in his life. this song is about all the wrongfull stuff happening to him. especially with the verse "jew me and Kike me" it means dont treat him like you have treated them, which ppl have been in a way treating him like a jew in the last years of his life, stripping him of his rights and treating him like he is nothing. this song is basically a huge dont to all the ppl that treat michael with disrespect and hate. "dont you black or white me (my favorite line of the song), dont you beat me or try to kill me." and no matter what ppl throw at him he will never break or quit. michael was an unbelievable human being, with his musical gift and beautiful giving spirit. i think i figured it out.. i always thought this song was about pathways on leading the wrong way, evil way, whatever.. and the other being the good way. but last night i was watching the jay leno show and he was saying the queen of england wanted a pay raise, and i was thinking what a gready whore, she already has everything. so now i think the lady in the song is the queen. heres my reasoning Theres a lady whos sure all the glitters is gold... everything she gets no matter what it is has to be the best, ect jewles or whatever. when she gets there she knows.. she can get whatever the hell she wants no matter what cuz shes the gready queen theres a feeling i get when i look to the west... plants feeling the need to move to america to get away from the queen and that lifestyle? maybe the piper will lead him away from all of it, and the bustle in the hedgerow i think is just a feeling of change in your lifestyle, then the two paths you can always change and get on the right track... and as they wind down the road of right, there shadows taller then their soul, i think the shadow being taller then the sould means ones possesions or whatever shine bigger then whats really inside.. the lady we all know just being someone or thing of higher power, showing them that even when youre on the right path everything can still be gold, or you find new life thats as good as gold, the tune coming to you at last is you figuring out what life is worth and how life is beautiful. all is one and one is all, everyone is equal dispite possesions or wealth.. yuupp just a thought haha |

i really like Dyczkowski interpretation, mine is similar. i think its about kurt being in love with some one but not being able to persue it cuz it wont work. and then maybe settling for something else, possibly a different girl, just for security reasons. i always thought that it was i could let it smother me, meaning he will accept the new security, thats why i think this. and then his friend being the old love and him wanting it more then anything. i agree that the song is truly about anthony being a player and not being able to further a relationship despite being in love. but all songs are up for different interpretation and this song has a totally different meaning to me. i was dating this one girl and everything was amazing, i was in love but she was leaving for college, so i didnt want to further our relationship. right as she was about to leave i met another girl who was great but i never could love her like i did the first. i didnt want to lose the feeling of having someone so i thought it was "clever" to just use the new girl to replace the old, and ended up dating the new.. All of this ended up breaking the first girls heart, i regret it till this day and she never meant me no harm, and never deserved it. The even more twisted part is my dad was a player himself, i guess i sorta got his bad habits.. So theres my emo story of the day. i love this song because of the deeper meaning i get from it, and i love this site but music and lyrics are up for all sorts of different interpretations, and have different effects on different ppl. |

this song is one of the best written songs ever, and unbelievably well put together. Amazing! i think this song is about axl not being over a relationship. he doesnt understand why they arent working and he knows she is feeling the same. he can see her love is restrained. they both known hearts can change and that may be the reason for there part but throughout the song he knows his hasnt and thats not true in this situation. i think november rain is a metaphor for the tought times in a relationship, and the hard time after. i think candle represents his relationship with the woman and it being hard to stay "lit" if you will during a tough time. i think the woman is trying to get away and axl knows shes lying to herself and shes just afraid, he says if you love me dont refrain or else he will keep being down or depressed, walking through november rain. at the end again he believes her fear will come to an end and they will be together... (And when your fears subside and shadows still remain I know that you can love me when there's no one left to blame So never mind the darkness we still can find a way 'Cause nothin' lasts forever even cold November rain) = favorite part i think i interpret it this way because i am going through a similar situation. and i have the same optimism, that the relationship will work in the end |

| other than the song american idiot, this song is a briliant intro for the entire album, i think it touches just a bit on all the things he sings about in all the songs. jesus of suburbia comes up quite a bit throughout all the songs. i think billie means that jesus does not exsist to ppl of middle class or lower class society. examples in "are we the waiting".. jesus of suburbia is a lie. and in homecoming...
