I agree with aaron lewis shoes she is an amazing musicaian. i have always loved how I get a very clear picture of an older couple growing apart and still living their life together. The image of cold china dishes with cracks sounds so sad and distant, great wall, look into the distance. She's so creative, sometimes I feel like she's magician who will never tell us all of her tricky meanings to her songs. How boring to tell us every detail that we can interpret for ourselves. Okay, I have really enjoyed reading all of your insight into this amazing truth ringing song. It seems to be full of alot of truth that we know we all feel about blood, our voice, rape, pregnancy, abortion, sticking up for ourselves, compassion. I have always loved her power fantasy. Yeah, But what if I'm a mermaid in these jeans of hers with her name still on them. I think she is talking about herself and how he thinks he knows her but she could actually be something that he never saw or tuned into. The mermaid is her inner self ,her true emotions and struggle her creativiity, her voice that just doesn't fit into the jeans of the girl he has been with (her). When ever I hear this song I always think of a situation coming to a head. She's super emotional and its all been building whether it be a pregnancy, and rape or her hormones tangling up her blood. And then his mother shows up and it adds to the need to explode with her voice and she really could just escape into her mermaid ocean and leave this situation. Swim away from it all. who wants to be around some dude who doesn't really get who you are. The goddess has definatly chosen Tori to be the diva who makes us look into ourselves and discover who we are through our songs and process and work through our own stuff.

When I hear this song I hear a little insecurity and believing anyway message. I love the sounds anthony makes up when it dies down in the middle umm, uhhh, yeah, whooooo, and I think it's neat he mentions Cherokee. Thats special to me. John is so light and perfect in this one.

This song is definatly not about drugs. Its so clear to me that Anthony and the group are seeking other joys in life other than drugs. Anthony had written many times that doing coke and drugs brought about sad, dark demons. They were all in love when these songs were written and recorded maybee they were high on love. If people are really in love they strive for more than their demons. This song is amazing and it turns my feel good button instantly, naturaly. I think that this song is more about how they are following their path their way and thats all everyone can do. Some of us get a little and some of us alot. We got to make due with what ever we got. I love the guitar solo and the catch intro that isn't mundane at all. How do they make us feel so good!!!!!

Funny that I had a completely different meaning for the Lions and Tigers part. I was thinking of Lions and Tigers and Bears Oh, MY! from The Wizard of Oz. The ultimate midwestern movie. silly i know but it helped my kids sing along to this one. So thoughtful to write tribute to his birthplace.

i have always love the intense sound of her piana and she sounds like she;s cleansing some deep pain that perhaps she feels for herself and for other women on the planet. Women who love women and midwife eachother were witches and this sisterhood was a threat to men and it still is in a big way. I love the speed in which she plays this tune and the deranged yet sane look she gets when playing it.

This song has always reminded me of her going to a place of letting go and feeling meloncholic about it. Saying farwell and thinking about Eric , having some space from him and wishing he would call, . I have always wondered if these charactors that she mentions are parts of herself or maybe experiances that she thinks of as charactors, experiancesthat she has had with Eric. I love this song sometimes I sing it in the car during quiet moments.
