Bright Eyes – Spent on Rainy Days Lyrics 18 years ago
The first verse is, as most people here seem to recognize, definitely about a bad drug addiction and it is almost certainly NOT pot; pot doesn't create that kind of addiction. My assumption is that its about cocaine given that Conor Oberst has become rather notorious for his coke problem.

Wilco – A Shot in the Arm Lyrics 18 years ago
Regarding the debate as to whether or not this song is about heroin addiction... Jeff Tweedy, the lead singer, is an admitted opiate addict; he's said in interviews that he has long been addicted to opiate painkillers such as percocet and vicodin... heroin is in the same class of drugs. Given that he is a known addict and given the feel of the song I think its quite likely that it is, in fact, about drug addiction. Anyone who has experienced... this kind of life is likely to agree.

Spoon – My Little Japanese Cigarette Case Lyrics 18 years ago
"Bring a mirror to my face" sounds like a very clear allusion to cocaine use, especially when followed by "oh, let all my memories be gone." Mirrors are a traditional surface to break up coke on.
