| Fleet Foxes – The Plains/Bitter Dancer Lyrics | 14 years ago |
|
The first verse seems like it's describing the beginning of life on earth to me. Erosion shaping continents, tar pits rising. The bitter dancer is the earth, constantly spinning in its orbit. To the singer, the day this person came into their life is as monumental as the day the earth began. Several lines, daylight sleeper, midnight feeder, remind me of a vampire, though I obviously don't think that's the literal meaning. But whatever or whoever it is who has settled into his life, possibly against his will, is a leechlike creature, draining away his life. I think the suggestions that it might be a personification of Death are likely considering the third verse. He should have known it would come, because it's a natural part of life, but it's a part that people don't consider. They walk around 'blind in the sun' pretending it isn't there. But though Death makes sense there, I don't quite like how it fits with the rest of the song, especially the end. But then again, FF is known for adressing their songs to more than one person. Perhaps the singer knows he's dying, so he's holding the people he cares about at arms length to keep them and himself from getting hurt? That still leaves the bit about his son kind of ambiguous though... |

| Gorillaz – Latin Simone (Que Pasa Contigo) Lyrics | 17 years ago |

I've actually never heard the spanish version, only ever heard the english version, which seems nothing like the translated version. I'll see if I can't type it in while I listen. Give up, if you wanna survive (can't quite make out this line) Get oh so live In your life everything Falling out the sky on top of you Now what you do Tear yourself up now It's the love of your life ??? All I know before it's gone I always feel its getting me down When nothings wrong What's the matter with me? What's the matter with me.... (musical interlude) Give up If you wanna survive Pick yourself back up You've gotta get on the song Lovely What's the point? It's funny till you're left to kill yourself In this town So, what's the matter with me? What's the matter with me? What's the matter with me? What's the matter with me... (long musical lead out) Kind of sounds to me like he's feeling down for no particular reason and trying to convince himself he needs to stop mopeing and get back to work. Perhaps, if you follow the Gorillaz fictional plot line, 2D is trying to rally himself back to work after the apparent death of Noodle. |

| Modest Mouse – Ocean Breathes Salty Lyrics | 18 years ago |

This song just never stops being beautiful to me, and I've heard it a thousand times. The first time I started to really think about it, I nearly cried. (I was feeling kind of depressed and emo at the time, I wouldn't normally cry like that, but hey.) The first line struck me the deepest, I think. To me at least, he's saying 'You may be gone, but I'll keep you with me any way I can. In my head, in my heart, in my soul.' It seems like he's doubting his own atheism because he can't accept that this person he cares about is gone forever. Then, realizing what he's thinking, he becomes angry at himself, and at the person for causing him to think like that. So, at the same time he's encouraging the person to keep existing somewhere for him (The ocean breathes salty, wont you carry it in? In your head, in your mouth, in your soul) he's shouting at them, once again in contradiction of himself, to get away from him, to stop existing and making him question himself. |

| Coheed and Cambria – Everything Evil Lyrics | 18 years ago |

I don't know the whole story behind this song. I can't buy the Cd, so I can't get the songs in roder to work the plot out properly, but the whole point in Coheed and Cambria is that their songs are all chapters in a huge story. I hear they're making a comic, which I can not wait to get. Claudio and Jesse are charecters in the book. I thought claudio was the bad guy but, like I said, I don't have the story quite straight. Regardless, this band is amazing. I am normally not a hard rock persona t all. You can tell by the fact that I call C&C hard rock. XD But they are so good, I listen to them anyway. I've never heard a band with so much raw talent. You just don't see bands like that these days, where the musicians can actually play and the singers can actually sing. Espcially not in a male rock band. So, in short, I flat out worship Coheed and Cambria, FOREVER. Aaaand, Ten Speed makes me laugh. I love that song. |

| AFI – Miss Murder Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| Personally, and this is probably rediculous, but I think it's about Hitler. XD I know, stupid right? But I'm kind of a WWII buff and listening to the song and watching the video made me think of Adolf Hitler. The way he's dressed in the video, and the arm gestures as he stands on the balcony, adressing a crowd. Not to mention, it definitly sounds as though this is someone he looks up to and, taking Davey's personality into account, that just screams Hitler at me. As to the lyrics, it sounds like he's disapointed in his hero for giving up and killing himself. | |
