tomc933 and alix are utter fucktards. C'mon. If this song was about a tamer topic, there'd be less negative feedback. A lot of people masturbate. Get offa yer high horses and deal with it, for chrissake. |

I truly believe in sex-positive music. I really enjoy "Flower," so I'm clearly not a hater -- don't stone me! This song is just so...stupid. I'm usually better at coming up with adjectives, but no other word comes to mind. I'm not a Phair fan by any means...I own a few of her songs, some from her "Guyville" debut and some more recent. Maybe she was trying to bring back the sexual, amusing magic of "Flower." I just don't know. I guess she sounds desperate here? Maybe that irks me. In "Flower," she didn't, and the arrangement was really pretty, too. I don't know if she was going for shock value here. Shit, it's just straight-up awful. |

Justin Timberlake should cover this and release it in 2008. Please don't kill me...I'm not even a super-duper major fan of his; I just think he could make it really good. |

I understand the drug interpretation, though the first time I heard it was here...though I suppose that's only because I'd never looked for an interpretation at all before. I just turned the song on a minute ago and suddenly thought...masturbation. His best friend is...his penis. But that was just a mere stab at it. The drugs explanation makes plenty more sense.
Don't stone me. I just put down what popped into my head! And no, I'm not one of those people who always makes songs about sex, just to tell you. |

Also, I'd respect the negative opinions of others if they knew how to categorize their music. And if they knew how to express themselves, period. What fucking morons some people are. dance_in_misery, what music DO you like? Hinder?
Yeah, this song is sappy, but it works. |

I think this is one of my favorites of all time -- definitely my favorite Usher song.
It could be about love, lust, or both. It tells of a guy's feelings for some girl, and I get the impression he doesn't think he's entirely worthy of her affections. He's essentially obsessed with the chick and thinks about her when he's "out with someone," which I think simply means one of his boys, not another girl. In a way, this song pisses on the "bros before hoes" mindset. Every often, lovelust grabs hold of you and screws you up royally. You eat less, your grades fall, and you ignore your friends. Most people don't want to be alone. Loneliness can be one of the worst experiences, especially for adolescents. Usher not only found his soulmate, but he cured his own empty feelings in the process.
He then got another girl pregnant. Uh...just kidding. Maybe.
That aside, some of you people are ridiculous. Usher has been a star since he was in his mid-teens. He's been around for a long time and he's got a Diamond album, something not even JT has. His vocals are amazing. He's one of those people who can take a break and come back a few years later and still be on top. Not everyone has that talent. Yes, he's pretty, but who cares? It's not his fault if you were born unattractive.
Bottom line: the man can sing. Looks are icing on the cake. He's out of the spotlight right now, but expect him to be back. He's done it before. Those RIAA numbers don't lie. |

| Mazzy Star – Be My Angel Lyrics

I think the first person is correct. It's about lusting after someone. And I think it's the singer of the song who's being lusted after. When she says "be my angel," she's accepting his invitation. She doesn't want the man to think his efforts are in vain; she doesn't want him to think it's useless or to forget it. She has an effect on him and makes him do things he otherwise wouldn't. Maybe she's been hurt in the past, and that's why she asks him to be kind to her. |

| The Presidents of the United States of America – Lump Lyrics

I do think it's basically about a promiscuous girl who wasn't the brightest crayon in the box. I don't think it's about necrophilia, though I understand the interpretation. Maybe she just slept around because she had nothing to offer, or maybe she was just bored. The song definitely implies she's a complete idiot. Some guy, meanwhile, lusts for her. Or maybe he genuinely loves her. She left gave him a lasting impression. He calls her "lump" because she's either on her butt or on her back constantly, and she doesn't live a fulfilling life. Yes, the "party girl turned lazy" does fit quite well, I do say. Maybe she suffered permanent brain damage from too much drugs and booze. |

| Nada Surf – Always Love Lyrics

Why is this song so good? It should have been a huge hit. I heard it in Disturbia, though.
Yes, I agree. Straightforward meaning. It actually kind of parallels "All You Need Is Love" by the Beatles. At least, I feel that it does. Love is good, love can guide you, love can get you through life, etc. It may be a semi-cheesy song, but it's still so gosh-darn lovable. |

| Oasis – Wonderwall Lyrics

This is a great song from an amazing album. I mean, the album is superb. I guess I'm not an Oasis fan because I only have What's the Story (Morning Glory), but I absolutely adore it.
I'm not certain what this song is about, but I'll take a stab at it. I feel like it concerns a man who loves a woman, but she's in a state of depression. The "fire in her heart is out," and he has to explain to her that "roads we have to walk are blinding" and that the "lights are blinding" - the trials and tribulations of life, basically. He wants to pull her out of her funk and tells her of an opportunity: "Today is gonna be the day that they're gonna throw it back to you." Nonetheless, despite her severe sadness, he feels she will save him, as opposed to the other way around.
And he loves her, even though she screws up: "Today was gonna be the day but they'll never throw it back to you." Fortunately, there is still hope in the love that they share, even though it may be all she has. |

It's pretty obvious...yet I find this song to be unique. Rap culture usually embraces hodom, rather than chiding it. LL obviously thinks badly of this girl. The song is amusing. I love LL Cool J's old work. OLD. His ratio of wack material to good is about same, unfortunately. Thanks to his more recent stuff. But Radio, which this is on, is a great album. |

I don't think homosexuality necessarily needs to be what this song was built around. Why? Well, you see the word "shy" in there, right? It's about shyness, and people from all walks of life may deal with it. The shyness controls this person's life. They think of going to a club, because individuals tend to lose their inhibitions in such places. The person is a full adult, hence their impatience -- "When you say it's gonna happen now, well when exactly do you mean?". They want to suddenly get over their shyness, because it's proven to be a huge obstacle in their life. So much so, they think of suicide. And yes, going through life utterly shy is going about things the wrong way. The "son and heir of nothing in particular" are also important, I do think. It shows a lack of confidence and perhaps a rocky family upbringing. This person feels they bring nothing new to the table. Perhaps such feelings were instilled by a shitty background and shitty parents. |

| Howie Day – She Says Lyrics

Howie Day is kindly telling someone to step off from his lady, in a nice way, because he's a classy gent. I do think it's about friends, and he's got the girl, and his pal wants her. Appears to be the general consensus across this board. He knows her, and what she wants and likes. They have a connection and he's telling his friend she has no interest in him in the romantic sense.
Or it could be that he's with a girl and he knows her ex wants her back. He still ain't having it.
I love this song. I don't know why it didn't chart on the Billboard Hot 100. I think he should rerelease it. A lot of songs are better received second time around. I know it's much later, but it could still work! I heard this song in Loehman's and fell in love with it. I could immediately tell it was Howie, even though the only other song of his I know is "Collide." |

| Nickelback – Rockstar Lyrics

This is pretty satirical. And funny. The thing is, I do believe a lot of rockstars of today embody this kind of persona. This is a slight attack against them, but I'm not complaining. It's clever clever. :)
Call me crazy, but I think that the asides from Billy Gibbons, the guy from ZZ Top, are supposed to be the Devil speaking to someone who wants to be a star, instead of just an ordinary dude. This song is sarcastic, yes. But it basically brings up the question of how much you'd give up to be famous. Would you sell your soul for fame and fortune? Some people would. I think some people have.
At any rate, this song makes me laugh. Plus, it's as catchy as sin. I'm not a Nickelback fan by any means, but this is on my iPod! |

| Mazzy Star – Into Dust Lyrics

I first heard this song on House -- one of my favorite shows. It made the scene it was played in so much sadder than it would have been, and even though the episode was nowhere near a favorite of mine, I found myself crying! It was played in a man's time of dying, though it may be about something less permanent than death. Yes, it could be about death -- we all turn to dust beneath the soil. But it could also be about how people can grow away from each other and disappear from one another's memory. Hence why Hope feels her eyes turning into dust and why she "could possibly be fading."
But the death explanation seems more accurate to me. And this will sound superbly weird, but the song sounds as though, in particular, it could be alluding to two people who are dying together and have Alzheimer's disease. So now, they are strangers. They have faded from each other's memories and now will die together, turning into...dust.
Farfetched, I know. |

| Mazzy Star – So Tonight That I Might See Lyrics
| 18 years ago

This song is surreal, and actually rather creepy. While not necessarily a bad thing, I can see how it wouldn't suit a lot of tastes. I like it, albeit I could do without the long, drawn-out instrumental portion at the end. The guitar is actually a little too screechy. That part of the song could easily be cut in half or more...and if there was a version like that, I'd for sure download it to my iTunes. I do have this one. It runs 7 minutes and 14 seconds long!
Anyway, onto the actual meaning: it's simple, isn't it? Hope Sandoval (lead singer) is simply speaking to someone she loves dearly; most likely her lover, as far as I can see. The only line that confuses me is, "You lost your chance." This, along with "Mary of Silence," appear to be streams of consciousness. I think that's all the lyrics are, hence why it sounds rambly to me. So it's rambling with an amazing beat and a drawn-out end. It grew on me, I must say - even though Hope talks and does not sing. It's a standout track on the album. |
