I know I'm going to get shit for bringing this up- At first I saw it about a thirty-something man who lost his wife recently- but I recently found out that this song is about Mr. Hay's previous alcoholism, and his struggle to overcome it. |

i think this song is about a guy who's addicted to drugs (the fire) and he's been taking them with a bunch of friends ("everybody loves to dance around the heat and fire"). He can see that it's not good for him though ("been lying here too long) and needs his girlfriend to help him break his addiction ("i need your arms to take me down"). i might be totally off though, all you b-52s fans know how few of their songs actually have really deep underlying messages. |

i think this song means that it means it doesnt matter if you're rich or poor or lived a good or bad life, because we all share the same fate. i think the water represents time carrying on, and it doesn't matter if you have money or a family or anything. we all have an equal ending, so you shouldnt grieve over how much, or what you have. that's what i think this song is about. |
