Scars On Broadway – Babylon Lyrics 17 years ago
Ok well first marooned is a word that is used to describe a disposition such as exile or being abandoned. Second Babylon is either a place of great rich, sometimes considered as Eden or paradise, or a place of exile.

So my take on the song is that it’s obviously about someone he loves/ed, more then likely a girlfriend. The “running to Babylon” thing to me is like their escape from whatever maybe abandonment. “You were the one that threw me into life//you were the one that looked through sadder light” suggests that, first it was because of her that he lives or because of her he understand life. And second that she stood by him during bad time. The recurring “I liked the way we slept on rooftops in the summertime”, I’m taking as, the “good times”. Then the line “If we were all marooned again, I’d give my soul to safe you”, is to me like saying if were abandoned again, I’d give my life to safe yours.

Then the lines change “you were the one that put me in defense//you were the one that took my confidence” is saying that she hurt him. But he is still willing to give his life up for hers. The ending lines “ Running from” instead of “to” suggest that their escape/paradise is no more.

Serj Tankian – Honking Antelope Lyrics 18 years ago
Tao is the correct way of spelling it, it is pronounced “dao”, and it’s a Chinese word. Tao comes from the Chinese philosophy of Taoism. “The Tao” is the idea that the world and everything in it is connected, kind of like “The Way” in Buddhism. Tao is the natural flow of the world.

This song is very, very beautiful, this maybe my favorite song.

It’s basically talking about how even though the human race has fucked up pretty bad with the world. That when were gone, the world will survive what we’ve done to it.

I have to say this song is so well put together. I especially like the lines, “We are the cause of a world that’s gone wrong / Nature will survive us human dogs after all” and “Wouldn’t is be great to heal the world / With only a song”. Serj did very well on this song, there is no doubt – it is really amazing.

Serj Tankian – Praise The Lord And Pass The Ammunition Lyrics 18 years ago
RuNAwaY, anti-American themed? What the hell are you talking about, and another thing none of the other songs even have a hint of anti-American themes what so ever. Serj isn’t and has never been anti-American; disagreeing with policies makes you patriotic. Serj is involved in the government because he, like all of us, should care about it.

Ok I think we can all agree that this song is talking about how people use religion to fuel and justify war. This is very common, especially within wars, which involve Islam. Also war has always been part of human nature. However, I think we’re missing key points in this song. Such as the lines: “Buddha, Mohammad and the Hindu / Lost 100”. This is just an odd mixture of religions; Buddhism is a religion that rarely gets into conflict and I don’t know much about Hinduism but I’d expect they wouldn’t either. Mohammad refers to Islam it doesn’t really fit with the other two religions. Then there the “Lost 100” which doesn’t make much since in the context, I mean well over 100 Islamic people have died as a result of current conflict.

Another line of interest is, “People still ask when will Armageddon begin” followed with “Dragging my feet any longer through this pussy littler”. I think that these lines are implying that we’re all still wondering with the end will come. But this is the end, it seems he is saying look at this shit we’ve gotten in. and then questioning, why are we still going through with this shit. Maybe hinting that we should pull out of Iraq.

Now onto the subject of the prophet referred to as, “Nlelith.” I think that it could be a pun for Neolithic, maybe a metaphor for the first human, our roots. Also if you think of prophet as God; then from God, came a king, for a king came servants or poor people. I’m not sure how “the swing”, creation or love has to do with it though. Also if you noticed that “creation” isn’t capitalized, I don’t think that it’s referring to Creation, as in the creation of the universe or Geneses.

The Offspring – Tehran Lyrics 18 years ago
Ok, first of all Tehran WAS written before Baghdad, that’s a fact. Before The Offspring were signed to Epitaph, I believe it was Thom Wilson wanted something more on the edge. So the Offspring rewrote Tehran and made Baghdad. And if you notice, “Tehran” fits into the melody much better then “Baghdad” does. And besides if you know anything about history, the conflict in Iran happened before the first Gulf War. So you don’t know history in both the world and The Offspring, you disappoint me.

The Song:

First stanza is talking about troops in a plane in root to Iran’s battle front, and just like Vietnam, we though we’d be in there for a month or so, but unlike Vietnam we’d win.

Second Stanza is saying that the president is letting it become like Vietnam, that either way Islam will be damned and we’ll make our last stand in Tehran. This seems to be directed at the troops.

Third stanza is talking about the bombing raids. Also implying remorse for killing Iranian troops, wondering if they got the chance to say goodbye.

Forth is saying kill or be killed, you’re on your own, that we will damn this place one way or another.

“Great Satan” referring as this has become like Vietnam.

“Our flags are burning” Referring to Islamic culture burning our flags in protest to our present in the Middle East, also flag burning in America protesting the war.

Fifth stanza is saying that our troops are now bodies in the sand and the death toll is just a never-ending growing number, that we’re losing troops for seemingly no reason, just like Vietnam, we’ll never win.

And the last stanza, saying the president let it go on just like Vietnam, let our troops die for nothing and now they’re (we’re) all damned.

Really this song isn’t talking about past mistakes, but rather we go into conflict with out good reason, and get our armies depleted with out cause. That we let conflicts turn into a situation like Vietnam. Baghdad was the same thing, so is this war we’re fighting now.
