Kind of ironic that the guy says "go watch some pussy mtv" but then mentions Tool in the next sentence. No, go listen to Deathspell Omega if you want some meaningful metaphors.
Anyways, great song. Being a Christian, I'd normally find the lyrics a bit offensive, but considering it's in accordance with the show, I'm fine with it. Musically, this may be the best song on the album. |

Well, Saviour Machine is very Christian, so I don't see this as Eric criticizing God. Although, he could be speaking AS a non-believer in this song. |

You've got issues dude. I'm a Christian, and I have never killed or attempted to kill anyone just because they believe differently from me. Nor do any other Christians I know. In fact, maybe you're forgetting all of the Christians during Paul's time that were persecuted? Oh that's different of course because that goes against what you've come to believe. Or maybe you haven't been watching the news where Muslums have been attacking Christians and Americans? That's right, believe what you want to believe and close your eyes to everything else. Like I said, typical anti-Christian accusations. Nothing has changed. |

Not sure what the band being Christian has to do with their music. You can still like them. To me that's just pure ignorance. "Oh, they sound good, they're Christian so I can't listen to them anymore." Grow up.
Anyways, I think this song is about people who go around acting like they are Christians on the outside, but don't really follow Jesus on the inside. People who have Jesus statues and wear cross necklaces but yet do not even truly know the REAL Jesus. |

In the linear notes for this song it says that "Jesus" in this song represents a person's faith, so it's not literally talking about Jesus. I believe it is about a person who begins to doubt his faith. The line "he never really lived" makes me think that this person may have claimed to believe in God, but always had doubts. The line "I bandage his wounds, I kiss the face of Jesus Christ but he is dead" sounds to me like the person has constantly tried to cover up his lack of faith, but finally convinces himself that he no longer believes in God. The end seems to be that God is showing himself to this person and ultimately he begins to truly believe for the first time. That's just my interpretation though. |
