| The Smiths – Shoplifters of the World Unite Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
I don't think that "every Smiths song is about being gay" and it is annoying when people distort lyrics by over analysing them. However, it is rumoured that this song is Morrissey's response to the Conservative Party's "Section 28" and its idiotic proposition that homosexuality is something that can be "promoted" and that this kind of "promotion" ought to be criminalised in order to stop evil homosexual men from praying on young children and "persuading" them in to homosexuality. I love that the Tory's think that something that is rooted as deep in your biology as your sexual orientation is something that can be changed by persuasion. "Go on, just go gay it's really fun and i'll give you a tenner" yeah because that's how sexuality works, WEL DONE MADGE! LONG LIVE MORRISSEY! |

the last one is "oh this state of ecstasy nothing but NET could ever give to me" i like this song, kinda dancey and happy. |

| Rufus Wainwright – Going to a Town Lyrics | 17 years ago |

I don't think this song is a let down in any way. I agree there are lots of alternative singer songwriters that have used the USA as the subject matter of their songs recently. But that's just because the US Administration has fucked us all over, and the majority of the world is mad about it. So ofcourse, this anger is going to show up in the songs of musicians. fantastic song :) Martha Wainwright wrote a song about the iraq war called Tower Song. |

| Alanis Morissette – The Guy Who Leaves Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| This song is about how Alanis witnessed her father leave the family as a child, and her brother left home when he was young, that any man that Alanis develops a relationship will eventually leave. So every man she is attached to wether it be romantically or otherwise, is always playing "the guy who leaves" | |
| Martha Wainwright – TV Show Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
for me, this song is about depression. i think that the line "not the way that i don't love you, but the way that i don't love myself" is what she said to somebody when she broke up with them Then she became alone, and "hated herself". The song is about loneliness and depression, secluding yourself in your house and putting on a front every time people come round so that they don't ask questions. i love the line "there are things these days, that can help you through a phase, like food and health and fear, i prefer the beer" going to see Martha in May, can't wait, i'm so lucky =] |

| Alanis Morissette – Not As We Lyrics | 18 years ago |

This song is beautiful. I think it will bring a new kind of flavour to the upcoming album! This song is definitely about a break-up, doesn't take a genius to work that one out. And highly likely about Ryan Reynolds. peace x |

| Delerium – Truly Lyrics | 18 years ago |

if you look for this song on the iTunes store there is a mix available called "wise buddha" this led me to the conclusion that this song is not only about discovering your true and natural self, but about the buddhist path. Part of buddhism is the belief that all life is suffering and that we have to accept that there is pain in the world and see it exactly for what it is and be under no false perceptions before we can uncover our true selves and reach enlightenment. The vocalist on this track is called Nerina Pallot, check out her albums they're great! PEACE X |

| Kate Nash – Caroline's A Victim Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
i think this song is about a girl called caroline and she's a bit of a victim. just a wild guess though. i LOVE Kate Nash the song and video is blatently taking the piss out of scene kids! Scene kids should not be aloud out nor should they be aloud to like Kate Nash they're not intelligent or individual enoughx |

| Joni Mitchell – The Three Great Stimulants Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
I love this song. It really speaks to me. It shows society for what it is and how pointless war is. Dog Eat Dog was mainly socially/politically driven. Sadly, it's still a fitting description of society today, 20 odd years later =[ Joni is a legend peace x |

| Tori Amos – Bouncing Off Clouds Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
My interpretation of this song is that it's about the planet as a whole and the war. Why can't we just make it easy? Why does everything need to be made difficult? I think the "you can stare all day at the sky but that won't bring him back" lyric is a woman coping with losing her husband in the war and the "wrapped in metal, wrapped in ivy, painted in mint ice cream" is about how everything is sugarcoated by the government and we're told everything is under control. I could be completely wrong but that's just my idea of it. I think it fits. peace out x |

| Tori Amos – Digital Ghost Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
I think this song is about her husband Mark Hawley, he's really in to machine/technology. I think it's about him paying more attention to his gadgets than to her. i like the idea of it being about the life support machine though. That makes sense too x |

| Tori Amos – Mr. Bad Man Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
This song is about writer's block. Mr. Bad Man, is the personification of it. "But everyday I know that I may just be closer to the sea of frozen words" "So she asked him "Hey can you hold my song? It's the one piece that I got left so hide it well" she said" |
|
| Tori Amos – You Can Bring Your Dog Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
this song is so cryptic, like a lot of Tori songs ^^ i have no idea what the first verse is about. "i'm not livin' to be the mrs" obviously means, her purpose is not to find a man, shut up and settle down, but the guy is still attractive. The "dog" is obviously a metaphor for something, wild guess... i think it might mean someones "baggage/history/past/drama" i only think this because it says "i hear your old flame is a pure breed" and flame, is a bit of a dramatic/violent word and it says "you'll be too busy to sue her for damages" complete guess. could have a completely different meaning. it'd be intresting to see some other interpretations x |

| Alanis Morissette – Everything Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
I think this song isn't about her lover but about her fan base, i think i heard it in an interview, also the give away is in the video, she is walking with FANS, plus she holds up a sign saying "THANK YOU" if it were about her lover then the video would reflect that, it's about her fans knowing everything about her but sticking with her through thick and thin x |

| Nerina Pallot – Jump Lyrics | 18 years ago |

This song is about always going for one night stands and not commiting to a relationship, then feeling worthless about it. But when you do commit it turns sower. So what's the point? might aswel jump |
|
| Nerina Pallot – Damascus Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
To me, damascus is about a break up. The first verse, the speaker is saying how they have faked their way through the relationship "i've played a role so well that i've forgotten myself!" and he/she keeps linking the relationship with acting "the falling of our final curtain" "the closing scene" |
|
| Nerina Pallot – Very Good Sir/ Catholic Boys Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
This Song, like many others by Nerina is about seeing an attraction to bad boys! Only in this song, she really likes him, and wants him to grow up a bit "very good sir, getting better, be amazing if you try" "why must you fight? why not just live and let the world go by every day?" Nerina rocks x |

| Joni Mitchell – Raised On Robbery Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
Just bought "Court and Spark" today! First time i listened to it, this song really stuck! It's upbeat, catchy and the lyrics are really cheeky. I'd say the woman is a prostitute, who got money when they government bought her house, to build a highway over it, her then boyfriend wasted all the money and left, so she turned to prostitution, sounds sad really but the sond is delivered in a really funny way! GO JONI! |
|
| Joni Mitchell – Ethiopia Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| This song is obviously about poverty, in ehtiopia and all around the world. Joni is stressing that now we are all aware of what is going on in the world and how some of our people are suffering, it's time for action! It takes more than a newswoman strolling through poverty and making us sympathise, we need to actually take physical action! | |
| Joni Mitchell – Free Man In Paris Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| I love this song! It's so catchy and free, whenever i play it, it puts me in a good mood. I know nothing about David Geffen but i always considered this song to be about a record producer, everyone sucking up to him and calling him up for favours, he literally holds their future in his hands. I was certain this was what the song was about when i heard "stoking the star maker machinery behind the popular song" the song is about how he just wants to get away from it all and feel free and concentrate on his own life and love life, but he's too commited to his record label. Yet another hit by Joni, catchy and meaningful! | |
| Joni Mitchell – Big Yellow Taxi Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| I love Joni, all of her songs carry a deeper meaning and can be interpretated in many different ways. This was the first Joni song i ever listened to and i guess i was hucked from then onwards. To me this song is about appericiating the natural earth, its all around us and we're taking it for granted and suffacating it with conrete and living life a fast pace. I also like how she personalises itt at the end about her boyfriend leaving her. Oh and i have to disagree with "River Wolf" Alanis Morissette is an amazingly tallented singer and song writer, i am attracted to her music for the same reasons i am attracted to Joni. Her lyrics are really deep and meaningful , and somehow personal to anyone who can relate/connect with them | |
