| It´s like death really, this cold water...Either the person is dying, but can´t let go of life, materialized here as the someone´se hand, maybe his mother´s , or his lover´s...Someone he loves, and who ties him to life, still...But this won´t be long, as tehe Lord is calling him, but can´t seem to hear him... ("Lord, can you hear me now?" repeates...) It´s deppressive, but death is too, I think ... It could be to do with drowning, or not, necessarily, but I think it surely relates to losing one´s life... And the person , desperate, keeps holding on to his beloved one´s hand, as if it could hold him in life forever , ever after... It´s beautiful the way he uses metaphors to mean deth, life, desperation... Just so typical of Damien Rice, such a bright, sensitive, brilliant writer, as few living onse , as he is on top of it, and most of all, so CREATIVE!!! | Yeah, Maatrasa is right, this song is really intended to do with Billy The Kid, and was one of the songs Dylan wrote for 'Pat Garrett & Billy The Kid', the movie. And there are other beautiful, melodic, instrumental songs in the soundtrack too - I have it. It´s about a man near his death, and how he feels things around are getting darker and darker till he finally dies. And before he dies, he predicts his death, and says he´s knocking on heavens' door. That's because he's not dead yet, but almost... Very good acoustic guitar melodies in this song, as in the rest of this brilliant soundtrack. Sure the music is better than the picture itself...!!! | |

Some people are so evil , do not care for others' needs or feelings, treat some badly and others well with no reason for such a difference, are intolerant, etc , and they still say they ara catholic, and go to church every Sunday, WHAT FOR? If it means nothing to them , really, they jus pretend, as they do not want to have contact with their so ugly feelings, and think by going to church they will be forgiven no matter how they sin , and feel good, and have the guts to look at themselves in the mirror? | I'd just like to add that I loved the way Finding Mandana wrote about it. It made me see the lyrics in another way. And also that all the songs I know til now by Rice are really as most of you have pointed out, WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYYYY too sad! But they help us deal with our own feelings and know other people go through difficult situations or breaking ups. Thes songs are very useful to me now, in this terrible phase I'm going through. (I have talked about it when I wrote about "Volcano") Might as well try to get some sleep now, I am exusted, had no sleep so listened to these songs and downloaded some, and got to know other of Damien's beeeaauutiful songs, with touching melodies, so slow , and his voice shows his feelings so much too!!! He's a genius , I agree with some of you who have said that! | |

| Is there a small crime ever? To me all crimes are crimes, and so not small, they are all serious... But anyway what is going out with someone else when you ask the other person if it is all right, which means the relationship is open and he´s telling her what he did? It is not cheating in my opinion, because both know what had happened. I think this is how it should be... If something happens you should always discuss it as a couple, not cheat on each other. Attraction daes happen, and in this song it seems there was no real reciprocity of feelings at a certain time, so he went to look for someone else, but he knew it was wrong and told her. If everyone was as sincere I think relationships would not need to break up ever... It would be the ideal thing. But it almost never happens. Men usually get afraid of telling their women when they have a crush for someone else. They'd much rather cheat, and that is a real shame... They do not seem to be open to dialogue about this, and would never accept it from their women either, if they told them. What is wrong is to cheat, not to feel attracted, after all we have all got blood running through our veins, and it may get hot sometimes, without meaning we do not love someone, or that we need necessarily to choose and break up something previous. | |

| I have written but it does not appear here, so I'll write again. I know exactly what u mean , toolshed and evenangelsfall (page 1). I was dumped out of the blue all of a sudden by a crazy guy who does not even want to answer my call to tell me what on earth has happened, why after almost 4 years of an intense breathtaking relationship he just won't even talk to me , out of the blue! Must be completely mentally deranged, no other explanation for it... I am shocked, don't know what to do or think, I feel lost, I can't sleep only thinking of it without getting to any useful conclusion. I don't know if he'll call again (he likes to be the one to call, but has always answered my calls, talking ever so sweetky to me...). But surely what I am to him is not what he is to me and vice-versa, and what he was to me was not real for him, so ... WHAT TO DO NOW?? He never told me this, for 4 years made me believe I was so so wanted... That's a psychopathic thing to do to someone. Really wicked, if he really did not want me the way he pretended to do. Or maybe that was as someone sai above, just lack of the strength to abandon himself to his feelings, which were growing stronger, with my total reciprocity, and one day he just went completely cazy and dumped it all up!! And down... down the drain... One day I hope to forget him and everything, but now it is so so so difficult! God help me!!!!!! | |

| Toolshed and evenangelsfall, I really know what you mean!!!! What I am to you is not what you mean to me... HOw sad , but how beautiful this song is! The melody is so perfect! But it means the phase I´m going through. It's togh when out of the blue someone you love just desappears, after more than 4 years of an intense relashionship... Yeah, no word said, he's just running away from me and won't answer my calls, and I have no clkue as to WHY!!! Well, really, what he was to me was not what I was to him , I was just used and now I was dumped. He does not need me anymore, and does not have the guts to even say it by phone to me, he'd never say it to my face! I have never been through this and I don't know how to feel or what to do, and won't insist on talkin to him, as this would only make me feel more rejected. I think and think and do not sleep, but get to no conclusion as to nothing... So I'll try to forget the whole thing now, even though he has always been the one to loook for me, and he liked to initiate everything all the time! So I must have meant something 'til now, I think. It's good to listen to this song and know this really happens with real people, it is not jusa a nightmare, and your comments helped me to feel this way too. There were more people affected by this problem than me, and that helps me feel a little better...And the way Damien puts it into words was so inspired and inspiring too!!! | |
