this song was also in "love actually", it fit perfectly in that situation as well, where keira knightley's character finds out about her husband's best friends infatuation with her and the husbands best friend runs outside and has a mild breakdown and then afterward he very sweetly confesses his love to her, which is pretty damn beautiful. |

i think this is about a guy sacrificing everything for a girl, but the girl doesn't feel as strongly about him, and basically crushes him to hell. "i dropped all of my lovers, i stood up and screamed im in love"... that is basically like a guy giving up everything for a girl that he loves. then it turns out that the girl isn't quite as in love with him (hence "you gave it to me through the eyes, hatred"). the next little section is all about the girl making him feel terrible and ruining the relationship i think. "there was no living creature as foul as i" is basically saying how the guy feels worthless, and "all of my poems were false" is indicating that all the things he thought about this love (maybe things he had written in love poems?) were misled and wrong. then where he says "i could feel my soul dropping down through the mattress, i had to leap up before it hit the floor" is him saying that he's seeing that things aren't going to work but he is still absolutely heartbroken. he's probably trying to salvage himself a little from being hurt ("leaping up" before his soul "hit the floor" kind of sounds to me like he is trying to save himself before he hits rock bottom in this situation.) "i'm so alone"... that's pretty self-explanatory. the last bit, where he says "illumination held out in front of my reaching arms, the darker things get, the better i see" is like he's saying that he realizes the feelings aren't mutual at all and even though the whole issue is grim, he's learned a lot. the ending, "i'm so alone and so are you, we all live and die that way" is basically just him saying there's no point in love because it only lasts for a short time anyway. also, i was considering the title of the song, and "teeth the size of piano keys" implies to me that someone is bearing a huge grin (their teeth would be large, therefore, "the size of piano keys".) and this could possibly be alluding to the guy's initial happiness, or maybe the girl's grin after she hurts him and walks away. that's just a thought though, i could be completely off! |

i absolutely love this song! i, too, heard it first on the "free hugs" video and it just made me burst into tears! it's amazing paired with the video, but even by itself it brings me to tears it's so beautiful and expresses so many emotions anytime i'm even the slightest bit confused about something boyfriend-wise, this is the song i listen to. it just gets everything out! |

i think this song is about going along with how society tells you to work your ass off and you will get good things in life, but the singer is missing out on tons of things in life while he is so caught up in his work, and he doesn't feel like he's reaping the rewards of all his effort. in the second little stanza ("i'm always wishing, i'm always wishing too late...") it seems like he is wishing that he'd see the fruits of his labor. he wants things to "go his way" and he seems to be "missing the point" of all this work. the line "your signal fades away and all i'm left with is noise" could POSSIBLY be referring to a relationship that has faltered because of his dedication to work, meaning, the person has faded away and now he's left with nothing. and the line "count your blessings on one hand" is like saying he only has enough blessings/good things in life to count on one hand. then the part that says "so wait up, i'm not sleeping alone again tonight..." is like he's trying to get out of his boring cycle of life and try to actually live his life and experience everything he's been missing out on. he realizes there is "more to this life" and he wants a taste of it. then the part about his "youth slipping away" is pretty straightforward, he feels like he's giving up the time when he should be out living life. and the line "safe in monotony, so safe, day after day" is like saying that his work is just boring and it's the reason why he's, playing it safe so to speak, every day instead of enjoying life. the part about "can't help but feel betrayed..." is like saying he feels that everyone who told him being a dedicated worker has betrayed him by telling him that this is the life he should lead, because he isn't happy with just "punching the clock every single day". then the part "youth sold for a pension cheque, it makes him fucking sick, he heating up, he can't say no" completely ties it all together by basically saying that he threw away his youth for what he thought would be the perfect life, but he isn't happy with it at all. he hates it, it makes him sick, but he "can't say no" and get out of the life he created. sorry that was so long heheh!! |

i agree that "keep it on wax" would mean to keep your disagreements to the music but i think most people can relate to this song anyway to me, this song is just about someone betraying their friends and not having a second thought about it, just being selfish and getting what they want because their friends are "cheap" to them. also, the part about "now this bridge is ashes..." is conducive to the idea of not having any regrets towards using your friends... if the "bridge" was their friendship, it being turned to ashes symbolizes the friendship fading and "it might as well have never been built" is like saying the friendship never happened, in other words, the person who threw it away has no regrets and is just going on with their life because they got what they wanted. and the "little river that it crossed..." part is like saying how before the "bridge" of their friendship could bridge the gap between any differences they may have had, but now the gap between them is too large ("looks like an ocean now") because the friendship is no longer there to hold them together. the restof it is pretty self explanatory i think! this is just my opinion though heh. |

i think it's about a girl who leads a guy on (hence "steal a kiss") and the guy has feelings for her but the girl is more so just playing around with his emotions. she might have feelings for him but i think she is afraid of getting into a serious relationship (the "you're in love with love i believe" makes it seem like she likes the idea of it, but can't actually commit to a relationship) the whole "do you expect me to wait here?" part is kind of like the guy is hoping she'll smarten up and come around and actually commit but he knows it won't happen because his "whole life could crash before your eyes" in any case, the girl keeps just "running away" and leading him on and he knows she's only going to break his heart also, "it's clearer now, you're nowhere into giving, giving into me" is conducive to that too, he's realizing that they're never going to be in a relationship. and then at the end where he says "you can tell it by the way i run away" its kind of like he's basically saying he's done with her head games and she lost her chance with him. |

this has got to be, hands down, my favorite song EVER. i love the sound of his voice in the "oh, oh! things are gonna change now..." part, you can just feel a kind of yearning in his voice. anyway, i think it's about two people who were a little skeptical about love and weren't really too determined to have it but they met and they fit really well together. they couldn't deny how good they were together and how strongly they were attached to each other (especially in the "i've gotta be honest, i tried to escape you but the orchestra plays on" part, it kind of gives me the impression that they were trying to forget/deny how much they meant to each other but deep down, the feelings made it impossible). also the part about "you didn't want any promises, just my undivided honesty", its kind of the "here for a good time, not a long time" kind of thing... then it seems like they finally give in to the fact that they love each other, the whole "give me time to prove..." part makes it seem like they are just going to give in and go along with their feelings because they are great together and the "you've dismantled me" part is saying that they've dismantled each other's feelings on love and such. in other words, their opinions and stuff have been shaken up by the feelings they've developed and they've basically been proven wrong and the "repair" is kind of like saying that in the process of discovering love, they were able to fix each other and patch up their cynicism. I'M PROBABLY COMPLETELY WRONG! but it makes so much sense to me heh! |

i love listening to this song whenever someone has really let me down and disappointed me. that's what this song seems like to me, i kind of also get the feeling it's about being lied to, especially in the chorus the "secrets that you deny" part is pretty self explanatory and "sins like skeletons are so very hard to hide" kind of reminds me of the whole "skeletons in the closet" expression, kind of like someone is trying to hide their sins/skeletons in their closet... if that makes ANY sense heh! |
