when i first heard this song, the lyrics were the one thing that really hit me. it reminded me of having strong emotions for a close friend, but not being able to tell him because since he is "such a good friend" that telling him would break his heart for your sake? as a kind of empathy for not being able to feel the same way, his heart would be broken. |

my ex boyfriend used to sing this song to me and i realized it described our relationship perfectly. we were both at a time when we was sick of playing "the game" and so we both went with the flow and let ourselves fall for each other even though we both knew he was leaving a few months after we got together ("there's no need to complicate / our time is short / this is our fate.") When he left, we listened to this song as a reminder that the time we spent together wasn't worthless. |
