| NOFX – The Brews Lyrics | 13 years ago |
| It has nothing to do with "ashkenazi" Jews being racist. It's a joke about punk Jews. Jews who aren't docile, hence "pacifism, no longer tradition". They do exist. Shaygetz is Yiddish and it means like a lowdown goy. And goy, means non-Jew, by the way. Actually, literally speaking for the record, the word "goy" in Hebrew just means nation. Technically speaking, the Jewish people are a goyim since they're a nation. Colloquially speaking and in many places proper it also used to refer to non-Jews. Shaygetz is an insult and goy is a word. And most Orthodox Jews do not drink Manichewitz. I've never seen it at a single Shabbos table. Ever. Only secular Jews drink that because they think it's the only kosher wine. | |

| The Distillers – City Of Angels Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| You know, compared to the lyrics of Rancid, these are much better. She's not Jim Morrison or Elliott Smith, but she's not bad either. Especially for a punk band. | |

| Bright Eyes – Bowl of Oranges Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
This song is great. I'm not a big Bright Eyes fan, but some of their stuff is great. The lyrics are almost always good though. Oberst is a great writer, most definatley worthy of poet status. I haven't read everyones comments, although I'd like to - but some people say this song is unhappy? I don't know how they got that idea. I think it's a very positive song. Although it may make mention of sadness and feelings of despair, it really has a strong message to it. Think of it. The first paragraph is kind of sad, but as it leads on to the second you see him mention a certain degree of optimism. Things changed after he left those nightmares behind. He states his optimism and what not. And the doctor appearing in quiet poor health, that's just an analogy. He came across someone who seemed upset, and he wanted to help him, but felt there was nothing he could do to help him. As he's already a doctor, he could take care of himself, diagnose himself if you will and treat it. But I think ultimatley, he's lonely, and upset, as he mentions the days so long black. The doctor says he can help him, just to sit and hold his hand and talk. In other words he just wanted somebody to talk to. Sometimes that's all you need is someone to talk to. Even those that help others, or are the strongest (which I think is what that whole paragraph was directed at) need someone to talk. Saying you need to cry only furthers the notion stated that you need to feel your emotions to grow up. In the end though, the last two paragraphs are really what makes this song upbeat. The rest of it, I will admit is kind of mopey. But the last two are what puts the optimism in it. We'll keep working on the problem We know we'll never solve Of love's uneven remainders Our lives are fractions of a whole But if the world could remain within a frame Like a painting on a wall Then I think we'd see the beauty then And stand staring in awe At our still lives posed Like a bowl of oranges Like a story told By the fault lines and the soil He's saying although we're imperfect or not always happy and sometimes sad, there still is beauty to things when you look at things from a different point of view. Sometimes you do have to look at things like they're a painting. As an artist, when I see a great peice of art (whatever it may be, in this case I think he's already painted a relatively sad picture to look at)it touches you. It captures something. It tells you something. And although it may not always be perfect, because very few paintings or pieces of art an artist is truly fulfilled by and sees its faults, you can still see beauty in what you tried to capture. Or at least someone can. This is my opinion anyways. I may be wrong about the song, but the last two paragraphs make perfect sense to me. Most of our lives are incomplete to what we had in mind, therefor those are faults we can find in ourselves. To look at the good things and what has been captured so well in life is what makes it beautiful. That's what I think Conor is saying. We all get sad sometimes, but sometimes we just need to be more optimistic and see things differently. |

| Beirut – Guyamas Sonora Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| This is one of my all time favorite songs. By far the best by Beirut, in my opinion anyways. I'm fairly confident he's saying tier. It would only make sense that he said it, since churches usually have seats arranged in a tier. | |
| Marcy Playground – Opium Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| This song is definatley about opium. I'm for the most part in agreement with overanalytical. Meggaawesome, you don't have to be in pain to experience the heavenly delight of opium. If heaven had a feeling, I'd imagine it would be a lot like opium. Just an intense feeling of nothingness and warmth where everything is blue. When he's singing Mom though, that makes me think he's almost in despair as well. Withdraw is an intense process. I can see him wanting his mommy when he's getting the cold shakes and throwing up. | |
| The Doors – Waiting For The Sun Lyrics | 17 years ago |

Actually, this was inspired by one of Andy Warhol's parties he went to in New York. "This is the strangest life I've ever known." That was for the people at the party. I'm not 100% sure of the exact meaning of the song, but I do remember reading that in No One Here Get's Out Alive. |

| Against Me! – Y'all Don't Wanna Step to Dis Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
I won't deny that a good number of you have interesting philosophical points. they painted war as a seemingly unfair trade off. because the objective of all wars is to stop war, to stop chaos. this is never acheived through war. anarchy is logical folly. all things follow order. conflict is order. it breeds creation. if no one stopped the nazi's, what would be left of the free world that is being nagged on today in this song? you can't overcome all people with words. the one thing greater than an evil man, is an evil nation of men. it is very hard to tell a nationalist army of millions that they serve a wrongful purpose and tell them to put down their weapons. the sentimental value of this song is great. basically we're a bunch of greedy people trying to indulge our way to happiness - whether it be t hrough greed or action, we indulge. to try and make something. something that against me! thinks has failed. the american dream and the roots it's being founded on are crooked. but anarchy never works. against me! is finding that out now, because they probably live a damn lot nicer with all the money they've been raking in from being under corporate wing. still, this is my favorite song. although i don't think the message as a whole is philosophically correct if it's being used to support anarchy. OVERGROW THE WORLD! |
