This song is perfect, also because it can have so extremely many meanings. And I think, to Chino, that he did something horrible to a girl, since he said that he was being a complete asshole, and that it had an enormous impact on his life, having his "life taken away". Mysterious, anyhow. To me :), this song is about my, "former", if I can say that, best friend. We were together every single day for years, we had everything in common and we knew everything about each other. We were like 11 or something. We were kinda, what shall I say, outsiders. Then around the age of 14 he started getting at mid school. I was still the same. Everyone liked him, he was the coolest kid in school. We slowly started to slip away from each other. All I did was watch him being popular and getting tons of girls etc.. "And now you feel, so alive". I watched him change from something good, to a fly, just like the rest of the popular kids. Then he feels so alive cause he has never been popular before. "I looked away" While he was at parties and stuff, I was just at home, being the same old person I had always been. I just looked away, cause I thought it was all sad: My best friend turning into a fly. And this is why this is such a great song, because almost ANYONE can relate to it :) Another thing, which kinda bothers me is that I think that a very close friend of mine also can relate to this song, and me being the "fly" :L Long live Deftones. |

This song is defenately about someone's death (not sex or war or anything). Anniversary of an Uninteresting Event = someone that died's birthday. Sounds like someone's daughter, guessing like 6 years No more gold lights for the queen: The gold lights are the light on the birthday cake, and the queen is ofcourse the daughter. Many fathers refer to their daughter as their "queen", I guess. High on the waves you make for us But not since you left have the waves come: Not sure what the "waves" are, but when this person "left", she died. Finding the meanings of Deftones songs are tricky; can't figure out the rest. But yeah, it's about death alright. |
