| St. Vincent – Jesus Saves, I Spend Lyrics | 13 years ago |

This is how I see it . Jesus saves or Jesus Saved. No deeper meaning that that. Jesus can save you. Any time, any where, any place. Alot of people find Jesus in the weirdest times and places. If it makes them happy, why ruin it? The absentee is the significant other of the singer. I am not sure if she's singing from first person or as another person. Meanwhile, while Jesus is doing his saving. You are living your life. The last part of the song struck me the hardest. We all know that quote , "All the world is a stage." blah blah blah? Well. Our time is short. When we exit the stage (die) , we can only celebrate the mess we made (life). Meanwhile.. Jesus is still saving. When I picture this in my head, I see something alot darker than the video. Which is quite light hearted and cheerful. Nutshell. Leave the saving to Jesus. You have other things to do. |

Honestly, I did not get the same "Apparently Profound Political Meaning" that everyone else who commented got. What I got from this song was a tribute to the old saying "Like Father , Like Son." Running on Bravado, there's nothing but determination guiding this songs protagonist to his goal. "He doesn't like chocolates" Has anyone ever seen the movie "Forrest Gump"? There's a pretty famous line that I thought of instantly when I heard this song. "Life is like a box of Chocolates, you'll never know what you're gonna get". Here is what I am saying : what happens if you don't like chocolates? How can you reside yourself to your fate if for some reason, the easy way out is not available? Born a liar, Die a Liar. Back to the Like Father Like Son thing. Our song's hero is born into a situation he has no control over and is being judged for his father's actions. Stop being so American, a typical American way out of a situation is all talk and no action or the reverse, all action no thinking. The James Dean line should be obvious, the recklessness that our song's hero is now living Are you hoping for a miracle? 3 out of 5, "you're just not good enough. Average. mediocre" 6 out of 10, better luck next time. Once again, not good enough. Just like his dad (same mistakes), our hero got caught up in the same things his father did. Drugs, Crime or being a Rebel . Once again going towards the James Dean thing. Somethings will never be different. Queuing up junkfood and hungry and dumb, what's the food of your typical stupid rebellious teenager? What is the food that kept america going for the last 100 years? Greasy Goods. Delicious. It's not my fault ( Just this once), well here we see the song's hero admitting he makes mistakes, but this time he did not do anything wrong. They're getting so much younger. This line had me thinking about 2 things. 1, is it referring to our hero having an affair with an under aged girl? Repeating the same mistakes his father made which lead to his own birth? Or 2, is it referring to the time in a person's life they just rebel for no reason? Be more European, get to the point already. Bastard Child of Guilt and Shame, our hero grew up without his father, born out of wedlock. Bury your head in the sand " ignore what they say" I'm thinking 6,6,6. I'm thinking 6 Another funny line. People can argue till they turn blue over songs that feature 666. so I'll skip it. Are you hoping for a miracle? It's not enough. "Of course , A miracle cant change your life." When you grow up in a household filled with stories of "How not to be like your father or your uncles", you'll see things differently. |
