Sugarland – Stay Lyrics 18 years ago
This song puts that emotion that an "other woman" feels in perfect perspective. The first time I heard it, I buried my face in my hands and sobbed.

Death Cab for Cutie – Someday You Will Be Loved Lyrics 18 years ago
I don't think this song is about the ending of a relationship, like a "Boyfriend and Girlfriend in Love Relationship." Instead, I think it is about a physical relationship with a beautiful girl, and left that physical relationship relationship behind /without/ saying goodbye or truly offering any of this reassurance.

I think this song is more him looking back on it and her. Like a guy quietly sitting in a hotel room playing his guitar and thinking of her. It's like a revelation later. Often the best insight into a relationship and person comes after you're separate from them.

Dashboard Confessional – As Lovers Go Lyrics 18 years ago
What girl hasn't said her part of the conversation at the beginning?

It was the perfect way to begin a song because that is something every girl can relate to, and the boy in the song gives just the answer we all want to believe.

This song is just like my daddy. Boyfriends quake in fear at the door. Haha.

Sara Evans – As If Lyrics 18 years ago
This song has nothing to do with a relationship that is perfect. It's about pretending a relationship is perfect, so that you don't lose your mind. Because sometimes things are balanced precariously, too precariousl y to bring up the problems, so you just pretend they aren't there so that things can last a little longer. This song is just describing that act of putting your finger in the hole in the dam. You're just holding back the inevitable. Hence why she says "As If". Not that they are, just that she's acting as if they are.

The best part of this song is how accurately it describes the futility of fighting how you feel.

Stefy – Chelsea Lyrics 18 years ago
This is one of my favorite songs. The meaning is obvious. Chelsea stole this girl's thunder (and her boyfriend), and the girl is trying desperately not to lose her head over it and do anything too drastic. She just wants to end it and move on.

Dashboard Confessional – Currents Lyrics 18 years ago
As always, he puts every emotion he speaks of right into the song with his voice and his lyrics. The beauty is undeniable, and it talks about that wish that everyone has. Don't we all want things, whether they are forever or just one night, to be as passionate as they possibly can be?

Danny Elfman – Jack's Lament Lyrics 18 years ago
The imagery in this song is stunning, absolutely stunning. Combined with the animation of the movie and Danny Elfman's voice, it is haunting and beautiful.

Tim McGraw – She's My Kind of Rain Lyrics 18 years ago
The romance of the water analogy is relatively clear. The point of it is a comparison to the woman he loves as rain. There are many kinds of rain; a rough, pounding thunderstorm, feather-light, barely-felt drizzle, a cold rain mixed with ice, warm rain against a sunny sky... the kinds of rain are practically endless, and people all like their own kind.

And she is his.

Michael Bublé – Everything Lyrics 18 years ago
This is the kind of song that any man would be well-advised to sing to the woman he loves. It is utterly romantic and brilliant without being too cheesy to bear.

Beautiful.

Sugarcult – Hiatus Lyrics 18 years ago
For my interpretation of the song, think of a pair. A guy who’s played the sex game for a long time, knows what he’s doing. A girl who’s pretending to be able to play the same game.

“The distance between the sheets
When chemicals compete
The friction of skin is deathly unbearable, yeah
The basics of want and need”

These lines open us up to the idea of hot, raw, rough sex. The kind of sex between two people where there’s anger and tension and rough passion. The lines are deceptive considering what follows because they give the impression that this is just sex, hence the use of the word ‘basics’ and ‘chemicals’, both words that suggest no emotions.

“The coward's in you and me”

This line reveals that they are both afraid of something. He’s afraid to let anything about this ascend from just the sex, and she is afraid to let it be more because she knows then he will be gone. He knows that’s what she’s feeling, knows that’s what he’s feeling, but because of that fear, he calls them both cowards.

“There's no turning back
We walked into this
Don't confuse it”

Even though they both have feelings that they are grappling with, they’re too far in, too drawn to each other, to stop, but the terms are already laid down, so to speak. They walked into this ‘relationship’ knowing it was just sex, and he’s warning her not to confuse it for anything else.

“Love
Wasted on the young”

This is where he admits just how much more of something this pair has. It may be love, but it’s wasted on them because they’re both too young and cowardly to do anything about it. Instead…

“Detonate and run
Never wanna own a heart that breaks alone”

They are letting the love happen (like waiting for a bomb to go off) and then when it finally gets to be too much (the bomb exploding), they’ll both run. It will break both of their hearts, but he tries to pretend that’s how he wants it.

“Bodies with no remorse
Clothing lines the floor”

Like in the very first verse, it begins with that deceptive description of it as just hot, raw sex. It’s ironic because the song is littered with remorse but he is still trying to claim there is none.

“The rhythm of sin is
Beating slowly
Dancing lonely”

One would assume that neither of these people actually sees sex as a sin. Their sin is all of the secrets they are hiding under the sex, the feelings they have. The feelings are leaving them lonely right next to each other, right with each other, because they both have what they want but aren’t reaching for it.

“Love
Wasted on the young
Detonate and run
Never wanna own a heart that breaks alone”

Already explained.

“Taken by it fast
Sacred in the moment
I can feel your breath
You couldn't save me”

The change from just sex to their feelings happened fast, and he seems to allude to the fact that he realized it in a tremendous moment, a sacred moment (showing that the feelings are not despised by him, just feared). He’s feeling her breathe and wishing that he would let her know what he felt, but instead, he’s going to hide it again. He’s going to claim that even she couldn’t save him.

“Taken by it fast
Sacred in the moment
I predict the worst
You're going to hate me”

It’s reached the detonation mentioned in the chorus. It’s all too strong to go on this way, and he’s got to end it, got to just stop, and he knows that when he ends it, she is going to feel as if he strung her along, made her fall in love and threw her out, so she is going to hate him. That thought is hard for him. The line is delivered with just enough of a break that it vibrates with pain.

“I could leave all of this behind
I could leave all of it behind”

The first of these lines is him trying to convince himself that he can leave her and their relationship behind, even though it will be hard and will break his heart. The second lines is him telling himself that he can leave all of it behind, all of the meaningless relationships, all of it, so that he never has to go through this situation again.

“I can't live this way forever
I cannot live this way forever”

He has to change because what he thought was just tearing the other people in his life apart is really tearing him apart as well. He knows this has to change. Things can’t go on this way.

This song has an entire story, with all of its depth of emotion and passion, carnal or emotional, woven right into it. It truly is stunning.

Boys Like Girls – Learning To Fall Lyrics 18 years ago
"I don't want to know that you know
It should have been me "

Those lines are brilliant, utterly brilliant. When a relationship fails or a chance for love is lost, it's harder for everyone if you both know that you were right for each other. He's saying he'd rather think that the girl didn't know because then he could move on. Instead, though, he's stuck lingering on the fact that it should have been him and everyone, even she, knows it.

Sugarcult – Shaking Lyrics 18 years ago
I get the impression that both of them are actively involved elsewhere (either sleeping around or in a relationship, etc.) but there's something between them. It's not just sex, even though that's clearly how they intended for it to be.
The something more makes everything else harder ("terrible on the phone", "better when it's us all alone") because it's not supposed to be there, and besides, for many people, especially those who are already intimate, the physical actions mirror their emotional actions making sex the easiest way for them to communicate, even though it isn't actually explaining or mapping out anything that's going on.

I couldn't quite conceive a song with this level of passion being written to describe /just/ a fuck buddy.

Blink-182 – Feeling This Lyrics 18 years ago
gummyoctupus:

"How could you say you meant anything different to anyone standing alone on the street with a cigarette on the first night we met.."

This is a loose interpretation. But I gather from this line that he's saying the first time they met didn't make her any different. She didn't mean anything different to him at that time, or so he thought.
But now, he's looking back and thinking about even that "average, nothing different" time makes him smile.

This is about that simple determination to make someone your own. The song is light and easy, a pleasant cover, and some of the lines are amazing:

"I'll pick up your hand and slowly blow your little mind,"

^ Wow.

The Academy Is... – Attention Lyrics 18 years ago
I undoubtedly think this song is about friends and the desire to be something more. There isn't a single part of it not applicable to that theme.

"This balance has weighed out our hearts' desire."

For me, that line is incredible. The balance spoken of is one that most of us have felt. The pair are friends, everyone knows that they are friends, everything is 'settled' that way... so what their hearts want has been pushed aside to maintain a balance and stability that they know works.
After all, as sarcastically stated, "it's not like it hurts that much anyway."
