Traceoflight is right. This information is even gave on the AP of octobre 2006. And I think it's okay to talk about addiction to this song, but only as an example. Spencer speaks about any temptations to which you have to resist. He recognizes that he cannot do this on his own, but needs help. To read the bible and to be a good christian is not enough for the singer to resist, but he wants to! And so he's wondering if God will let him fight against his demons alone, he needs one presence, he needs a physical effect of redemption in his fight, an act from heaven as an answer to his call. All of that is my though about this song. |

I agree it's about suicide, but I think that we cannot hide the fact that this song has spiritual words that lead in a spiritual way, a christian way. "I see your soul": who, except Jesus or God, is able to see the soul of people?! TELL ME WHO?! Is it you with your blinded eyes?! if we're serious, there is no one, (for against-christian's people, don't care about this song, go and look away, like He say to you in the 2nd verse "you look away"). "You see my wrist, I know your pain": Only one person is speaking here, as in the lines before(no one can really understand the pain of someone who committed suicide, the ones who say are lying). Only one person could explain the pain of each other, because he had been wounded until he died...and is still alive to help us. My hypothesis is that this person is Jesus. They put nails into His wrists, He died and received resurrection, that's how now He can explains the pain of humans, He has suffered more than you and me, 'cause he cares all of our sins on his back. That's why we don't have to settle any goddamn score.Goddamn, because we cannot settle our own scores, so sinners we are! It's not Scott who will said the opposite, humans are so awful inside that they don't deserve to live. And like Jesus said, "If any one of you is without sin, let him be the first to throw a stone at her.". But we get the life Jesus has done, under the reign of one king, the reign of the Kingdom of God. My interpretation is exposed through my faith, and if faith or religious opinion have no place here for some people, they cannot hide that it's Creed themselves that put christian creeds in their songs before anyone assert it. |

Erf... why does a friend give you the salvation?! Salvation is given by God! I think that AILD, with these sentences "is this your salvation? is this all you can give?" They wonder about what is doing 'em different of the other bands. The salvation they received, what God give'em, it's these things that give a reason to their lifes and make a difference (so big for a difference) between 'em and the others. They preach the message of God, so they won't stay on a reflexion about the illusions of anyone else, but they'll live the christian truth, their truth. |

"the obsessions of this world" "only a slave to this" (think "this" is the need) "these things that will never satisfy me" I think all of these sentences show that it's not about a girl, but rather about singer's life. Think that he's talking about material needs (even world OBSESSION), he's a slave to these things, and they don't satisfy him. The NEW DAY is the day he changed. The day he stopped to adore these false needs, and care about something he didn't care about before. "take it back": take all the material needs i have, take all my owns, 'cause tomorrow could be the last day. I can die tomorrow, and these things won't help me. (that's here i think he's also talking about God, the one he cares about now that will save him even tomorrow falls). People who believe in material needs won't be saved...'cause these things will return to dust like 'em. But now he's free from all these needs. |

I think AILD lak more about spiritual things in this album... My hypothesis is that singer's singing about Evil. He stays, he watches while we're suffering, he does nothing to help when we're going down...because he absolutely doesn't care of you. I think the singer trust him for a time... times before he had faith in the Savior... He may believed things such as satanic propaganda. "Seems like nature is your friend, natur is good...Satan is nature. Nature is your mother" Blind on the front of Evil, 'cause Evil's often disguised, even under a love-disguise.Eventually a confort-gift...Evil makes us believe that we're in luxury with, then we let go... Then, when the singer was wrong, he knew the truth. He has been betrayed. And the love-disguise means nothing now, nothing at all. Because Evil would send him to the death...by pleasure. The antithesis of a friend is the enemy. I think it's about The Enemy. Now singer knows who he is. He musted resists and did it. He did not fall to the ground on the front of a coward, the Opponent. |

Er! not commented yet?! A new As I Lay Dying's cd is coming! this song sounds rockin'good... I was waiting for AILD to be more clear with their beliefs. Just have to look to some interviews to see that they are still christians. I think these lyrics are a testify from the band. Why do they write so dark lyrics and play so hard music all of that because they know they're sinners they know their souls are condemned And look at the "You": the Y in capital's letter isn't a fate, i think they talk about God. He's the one who brings us life when we are surrounded by death. We are condemned, but God's grace is given to the ones that accept Him, even if we don't and we won't never deserve it. |

mmmh...don't you think that "every heartbeat" is a way to symbolize on every moment? As an hypothesis, we can think that it's about a girl... But... Can a teenage clear a mind?! I think that only God can really clear a mind...and Skillet's sing is not so young to think a girl can do as much. Also he can see what a girl is...but not God. Clear a mind is only one thing I said from the song, but there is so more, that he cannot make it in his head! (he said it by:"How can I tell you just all that you are?") "The strentgh of my life" is very used in christian lyrics, see in P.o.d.'s songs for example. I think strenght is more like a spiritual thing instead of a support from a close person. |
