| Nine Inch Nails – The Hand That Feeds Lyrics | 17 years ago |

I actually felt this song was more about drug use. Which is kinda supported by Trent getting over an addiction at the time he was writing the album. 'you're keeping in step in the line got your chin held high and you feel just fine' You're apart of a massive population of drug users in the world, and usually people feel content in addiction, unless somebody takes tries to take it away. 'because you do what you're told but inside your heart it is black and it's hollow and it's cold' While you're dependant on the drug everything seems fine. but its not. And this is shown whenever an attempt is made to break the addiction. 'just how deep do you believe? will you bite the hand that feeds? will you chew until it bleeds? can you get up off your knees? are you brave enough to see? do you want to change it?' Obviously challenging the listener to challenge the addiction. Bite the hand that feeds? The drug! The substance you are dependant on! Will you try to break the habit, do you have the courage? And finally the last time, do you want to escape? The chorus is effective as its composed of rhetorical questions which don't really force the listener to try and think, regardless of fluid saying its weak due to rhyming with bee, I think it was rather a smart move. A message in simplicity. what if this whole crusade's a charade and behind it all there's a price to be paid for the blood on which we dine justified in the name of the holy and the divine This paragraph actually more tends to the same message but in terms of religion. The symbolism is rather blatant, 'for the blood which we dine' Jesus Christ's blood turned to wine, consumed at passover I think? Justified in the name of God. I noticed that for once Trent didn't seemto be challenging the idea of God, other than with the first two lines asking if it was a charade. Question religion first? Before getting tied up in it? Who knows. so naïve to keep holding on to what I want to believe i can see but i keep holding on and on and on and on This section can apply to both drugs and religion. I want to believe that I'm happier with the addiction, I can see that I'm not, I can see I have a problem, but I just keep doing it because I have nothing else. And religion obviously, even though I may have doubts, the faith could be a major part of my existence, throwing religion away could leave a big hole in ones life. will you bite the hand that feeds you? will you stay down on your knees? Yeah um. Back to the chorus? Summing it up pretty much. Felt like voicing an opinion :] That kinda strays off the government idea haha. |

You prevent the ones worthy the gift of life To surface on once a prosperous soil I actually think the songs about Christians treating Satanists as subhuman. Possibly it could also involve satanist disdain for so many of the fallacies of organized religion. When it really comes down to it Christianity is a ideal which preaches hate. Don't believe it go read the bible :P |

'Into the arms of Armageddon Let it pour, more and more Pure fucking Armageddon Let it pour more and more' Man that part just gets you pumped! The whole album has that really awesome kind of war theme involved, this song makes me think that instrumentally, the satanists are arming themselves to fight in Armageddon against many of the lies of christianity. Fun song. |
