i sort of agree with you about the meaning but i think he is trying to tell someone else not to turn away from thier relationship he has made some sort of mistake and finally realizes that it's his fault but he doesn't really think he can change and she is saying "it's not me you're waiting for" because she is trying to let him down easy and he is saying that he won't give it up... telling her not to turn away. He also understands why she is leaving and feels like he is going to die because she is gone. he recognizes that it's his fault at the end and that it won't work because he asks her to forget even though he knows he cant change. |

To me It's almost like they have already broken up hence why her heart hurts and she is pretending to be alright. I think she feels like she wants to get back together but she is unsure because she doesn't know how to tell him and she isn't sure if he is the same person. Also, it seems to me like it was an boyfriend who became just friends with her afterwards but they are still on the edge of things. Almost as if both of them are hiding that they have feelings. It's a head over heart thing. Head says let this go. Heart says keep it. |

i think its about trying to be what you are not trying to be perfect to impress others and about the realization that its ok to be yourself and to be alone the last verse in the song where it says "beautiful girl sleeps by herself..." is a reflection of realizing that she is fine by herself and doesnt need to be with someone |
