| Queen – God Save the Queen Lyrics
|
Queen performed God Save The Queen (the british national anthem) at the end of all their concerts from very early on, as a tribute to the queen (not themselves), and so they put it on the end of this album, as it was a night at the opera it clearly had to finish with their trademark bang.
Sex Pistols did do a version of God Save The Queen (which was banned in England), and that was basically a satire. Although, I don't know about Sid Vicious but Jonny Rotten was definitely a Queen fan, I once heard a story about how he snuck in while Queen was recording, crawled up to Freddie's piano, said "Hello Freddie" and crawled back out again. |

I just love how it's 3/4 timing. I think that's really clever in a rock song. And I can't think of any other bands who have done that... |

| Queen – Machines (Or 'Back to Humans') Lyrics

I think it was about the age of technology, sort of like the comments that Vorticists and Dadaists were making in their art in the 1910s. Almost Radio GaGa-like in it's comment on music: "In the machine's world, it ain't no place for rack and roll". Its the premise around which the whole We Will Rock You musical was based. It's also about being forced to conform: "With smoke-blackened pistons of steel they compress me". I suppose you could also red brain-washing into it if you really wanted to. But there's definitely comment on technology and society and how we need to go "back to humans" |

| Queen – I'm Going Slightly Mad Lyrics

I love how many different sayings there are included in it for being mad.
In response to princess*delilah, the line "I think I'm a banana tree" is referring to someone being "bananas", ie mad.
Also, the clip is great. I'm so very cut that it's not on the Greatest Flix 2 DVD, and only on the VHS!! |

Ah! Kurgan's theme! I love this song and i LOVE the kurgan, especially when he's "in disguise". All the songs on this movie (except New York, which was a cover, and i think maybe one other song that was never released in an album) were written for the movie Highlander. It's an awesome movie and anyone who hasn't seen it definitely should. But don't watch the sequel, its crap. The book's good too. |

Freddie's song about one of his cats, Delilah. Roger stormed out and hated it and refused to do it. But Freddie was dying so he won out. haha i love how immature they all were. I think delilah may have been his black cat... but i can't quite remember |

Ah! Highlander! It's just about the immortal people and how the only way to kill them is to decapitate them. The feel of the song really goes great with the part of the movie it's for.
I agree that it's not a GREAT album, but if you think of the purpose for which most of these songs were written, they fit it really well. If you haven't already, watch Highlander and then you'll possibly appreciate more the song with the context in which it was written. |

| Queen – Death on Two Legs (Dedicated to...) Lyrics

This song is about their previous manager. He had cheated them, they'd had so much success yet the band was still in debt. This was freddie's backlash at him. they actually named the dedicated to... at one concert and it resulted in legal action. all the other guys were really shocked at how nasty freddie wanted to be with this song and wanted him to tone it down, but basically the songwriter gets his way. i love the venemous tone in freddies voice as he sings. and the lyrics are really clever too. my favourite line: "you're a sewer rat decaying in a cesspool of pride" |

Brian May was an astrophysicist and this song was written around the Einstienien Theory of Relativity, which I think is about the perception of time being relative to the speed at which you are experiencing it. That's been turned into lost of theories about faster-than-light space travel and how for astronauts or whatever, what they would percieve as only a short peroid of time would actually be a much longer time compared to the normal time eg on earth. Brian like the irony, almost, of putting this into a folk-style song. The premise for this is that through pollution etc humans have been damaging this planet and so "in the days when lands were few" "the volunteers" set off for a year to find somewhere new they could live. When they return after what has been a year to them, 100 years has passed on earth "they bring good news of a land so newly born though their hearts so heavily weigh. For the earth is old and grey". These people then have to live on without all their loved ones "for my life still ahead pity me".
It's a clever song, very typical of Brian, and I agree with what he has said that he wished they had released it as a single, then maybe it would have gotten the credit it deserves. then again, mainstream society isn't particularly concerned about lyrics. But yes, that's what this song's about, according to Brian. |

No one else cares to comment on this song? Crazy people!! It's about (in my basic interpretation) some freaky random maniacal guy who's in love with some woman, Tis kind of scary premise really "my mind is in total decay, i'm coming to take you away. there's nothing more that you can do this maniac's in love with you" |

Haha I LOVE this song. Tis hilarious! I got sick of all the same acca dacca songs getting played all the time, so i got them to play this on the radio station I listen to and the comment i got was "... a 16yo girl who likes big balls!"
It's also fun to sing at the top of your lungs walking down the street, especially being a girl lol =) |

Essentially, as are many of Alice's songs in one way or another... it's about sex.
"Walk through my door of desire baby"
"Building it with our love"
"Building a house of fire every time we touch"
and of course
"I want to play in your garden, baby, When you want it give me a shout" |

Ugh, Brian Johnson singing this song? Thats basically sacrilege. I'm a big Bon fan, he grew up right near where I live and my dad was best mates with his cousin. Don't much like Brian. |
