| Paul Simon – Hearts And Bones Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| One and one half wandering Jews = Paul and then-wife Carrie Fisher, whose father was Jewish. It's about their short lived marriage. But it's obvious that he loved her very much. I want to play this song at my wedding. I think it's gorgeous. | |
| Simon and Garfunkel – Hearts And Bones Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
This should be under Paul Simon's name. It's one of his songs. Art Garfunkel wasn't involved. I'm going to repost it there. However, I do love this song. It's about Simon's 11 month marriage to Carrie Fisher (Princess Leia). And it's beautiful. |

| mewithoutYou – In a Sweater Poorly Knit Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
I think the correct lyrics (at least as far as I am aware) are as follows (there are a few tiny corrections): In a sweater poorly knit, and an unsuspecting smile Little Moses drifts downstream in the Nile A fumbling reply -- an awkward, rigid laugh And I'm carried helpless by my floating basket raft Your flavor in my mind is back and forth between Sweeter than any wine, and as bitter as mustard greens And it's light and dark as honeydew and pumpernickel bread The trap I set for you seems to've caught my leg instead Go plow some other field and try and forget my name, We'll see what harvest yields, And supposing I'd do the same. I planted rows of peas -- By the first week of July They should have come up to my knees, But they were maybe ankle-high Take the fingers from your flute To weave your colored yarns, And boil down your fruit To preserves in mason jars And the books are overdue And the goats are underfed The trap I set for you seems to've caught my leg instead You're a door-without-a-key, A field-without-a-fence You made a holy fool of me, And I've thanked you ever since And if she comes circling back, We'll end where we'd begun Like two pennies on the train track The train crushed into one But if I'm a crown without a king, If I'm a broken open seed If I come without a thing, Then I come with all I need No boat out in the blue, No place to rest your head The trap I set for you seems to've caught my leg instead I do not exist (x10) Only YOU exist I do not exist . . . I LOVE this song. I think it's about a broken relationship, especially the part where he says, "and if she comes circling back, we'll end where we'd begun/like two pennies on the train track the train crushed into one". It seems like he's talking about a woman he had a relationship with, and it's one of those that he can't seem to escape (aka "we'll end where we'd begun" .. as though they'll be bonded just as tightly as two crushed-together pennies. The whole "door-without-a-key" and "field-without-a-fence" chorus relates back to the first, "in a sweater poorly knit". Weiss is talking about things that are poorly fashioned, or not done very well. I think he is Moses, because he talks about his unsuspecting smile, and that he didn't expect to find this relationship he's talking about. Also, I think the he turns to God for answers. The last stanza seems to be saying that even if he is left incomplete from the broken relationship, God will still accept him. I love that a lot of mewithoutYou's lyrics are directly at God himself. It's neat. Anyway, that's my take. |

| mewithoutYou – Tie Me Up! Untie Me! Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
This is one of my favorites. These are the correct lyrics: I was looking at the leaves, climbing to the tops of the trees but You were nowhere to be found. Just beneath all the green You were buried like a little seed among the roots and underground. I was licking at the leaves, but I was in short sleeves and you, you were like some sickness that I caught. My sweetheart moved away, swept off like garbage in the alleyway - And I need more grace than I thought. Oh, cause Brother, I'm far Brother, I'm far away, Brother, I'm far away from everything, Oh, Brother I'm far Brother, I'm far away, BROTHER, I'M FAR AWAY FROM EVERYTHING GOOD! She's like a hot cloth on a fevered head and like a needle she leads me (Well, I follow like thread) Tie me up! Untie me! All this wishing I was dead is getting old, it's getting old it goes on, but it's old. I was swimming through the waves for must have been days but could find no relief. When I started sinking down I thought for certain I would drown until I saw You in the ocean underneath All the bright colored fish tell of a treasure in a dull shell. "Such subtleties, so easily missed!" You, my hidden pearl of pure and perfect love and I'm living example of 100% the opposite of this. And if I ask the same questions well, you say I ask the same question, well, maybe I repeat myself from time to time. But if I ask the same questions, and I KNOW I ask the same questions, It's 'cause everyone who answers me's a liar! She's like a hot cloth on a fevered head and like a needle she leads me (Well, I follow like thread) But You untied me - didn't You untie me, lord? And now I haven't even thought about killing myself in almost five months. |
