Def Leppard – Love Bites Lyrics 17 years ago
To me, this song is definitely representative of a relationship, one in which the woman isn't sexually thrilled or excited by her boyfriend/husband/whatever, and the only pleasure seems to come out of fantasy and thinking about somebody else.

The Pretenders – Tattooed Love Boys Lyrics 18 years ago
I personally see this song as being sung by a prostitute, about revenge on a former "client" that may have been a love interest at one point, and how the woman who sings the song becomes more and more sexually experienced. "Changing tires" obviously means condoms and partners, "target practice in the hall" meant clients who masturbated while they waited their turn? (maybe)

I think her love interest winds up with some horrible STD like AIDS ("you got paint stick all over the scars and lumps and bumps") and she has made it out of that life and he will not.

Okay, been a while since I've been back here, but I can see I've stirred up quite a few feelings about this song.

No, I have absolutely nothing against haunted houses (I read more supernatural material than anyone I know). It's just that as the "meaning" of a song goes, it's a bit of a disappointment. It seems to make this wonderfully enigmatic song rather cartoonish...primarily reminding me of a 3-2-1 Contact episode I saw when I was young about a pizza delivery guy trapped in a math-related haunted house.

Phil Collins – Take Me Home Lyrics 18 years ago
An insane asylum? That's very sad and a great shame. I always thought it was about shy people, and in some ways I still apply the song to myself today, even seven years out of high school. However, if you watch the video you can see that an originally dark theme has evolved into something much more for most people.

Phil Collins – We Said Hello, Goodbye (Don't Look Back) Lyrics 18 years ago
Well, obviously this song is about moving. However, it seems like it was probably written to comfort a young child, no doubt one of his own.

Genesis – Second Home By The Sea Lyrics 18 years ago
Rather than let any of you believe the above tripe, I'm also going to be blunt.

The song is NOT about a damn haunted house. What's the point of a burglar breaking into a haunted house with ghosts that want to bore him to death? Sounds to me like you're talking out your ass.

The thing to keep in mind with Genesis songs (that isn't a love song) is that they have deep lyrics about straightforward concepts. This is going to be a song about something simple like a prisoner in Alcatraz but eloquently described. This isn't going to be about a lame haunted house. If they wanted to do that, they'd have written "Ghostbusters"...and Ray Parker Jr. beat them to it.

The point is, you can speculate but until Phil Collins plunks you down in a chair and says to your face what the song means, you can't put in all caps that "this is what it is about."

Okay, I'm sorry, but the haunted house thing is crap. If you really want to know what the song means, you'll need to speak to the man who wrote it himself, Mr. Phil Collins.

Genesis – Tonight, Tonight, Tonight Lyrics 18 years ago
Yes, it would seem that this song is about drugs, but you can also interpret it from the "Blade Runner" style video as maybe being someone in a relationship who is mentally disturbed, or perhaps even someone who has been kidnapped or assaulted.

If you need specific people, you need to think back on the Reverend Jim Bakker scandal, when he was caught with a prostitute. This song came out just around the same time as that crap did.

Genesis – Keep It Dark Lyrics 18 years ago
I'm about to reveal how much of a nerd I am...if he got abducted by aliens, it seems very "Star Trek: The Next Generation" to me. Remember how they erase the memories of prehistoric cultures so nobody can recall what the futuristic world is like? Keep it dark, folks, keep it dark.

And who would believe that a gang of thieves would let somebody go? If they "locked him up and found he had no money," they would probably either kick the crap out of him or kill him.
