I have their CD's, and, strangely, a can of water from their tour bus. :/ That last part doesn't really matter. I can't drink it, because it's 'special'. When I first heard this song, I was near the point of suicide. The song made me think about everything that I felt, all of the tears of blood that stained my soul and the concept of my very existence. I didn't feel alive anymore; in a way, I sort of felt numb. I had gradually fallen into depression, and when I'd tried to tell people this, they would push it aside and tell me it was just nothing and that everyone feels 'down' sometimes. After that happened a few times, I figured that mentioning it again wasn't worth it, so I fell further and further into a mental abyss. My depression, of course, only deepened because I was being tossed aside and I felt absolutely invisible to the rest of humanity. But the depression had originally started when I started hallucinating and having panic attacks from the terrifying images that haunted me everywhere I went. I endured this more frequently as months passed, and then I began to have audio hallucinations. The voices followed me as I went to school every day, and then they kept me up at night and exhausted me throughout the day. I didn't get much sleep, obviously. I began to doubt my existence and I wondered if I was insane. No one would listen. In the beginning, I had been thinking about the oblivion that we call earth, and I realized that the only thing that surrounded me was pure chaos and nothing else. Love didn't exist anymore and no one paid attention to me. In fact, they made fun of me because I sat alone in a corner, covering my ears with my palms, hyperventilating, tears running down my face. Some of them made jokes about it while others just watched. I woke up one morning and decided that I was done; someone was going to listen to me; the chaos was going to end; or I would die. I figured it wouldn't make a difference if I was dead or not. It had already gotten to the point that everything I looked at, I automatically thought of a way I could kill myself with it. I walked into my room to get ready for school and when I looked in the mirror, I couldn't see myself, no matter what angle I moved to, I could not spot myself in the mirror. With that, I walked into the kitchen and grabbed a knife out of the silverware drawer. My mother was in the living room, speaking to my brother. It took a knife to my wrists to get somebody to listen. Silence had turned out to be my invisibility cloak. Another day had meant nothing at all, there was no meaning, and to be honest with myself and the rest of the human race, I still can't figure out why I didn't just kill myself. My friend of many years died of cancer today, and I can't help but wish it was me. |

The singer is looking from a perspective wher he would be dying, and he doesn't want his friends to be sad about it. He would much rather look at his friends being happy as he's sitting in Heaven, above the skies of grey. He wants his friends to look at a better side of life, and think of it as if the rain from the skies are washing away all of their pain and sorrow. Some of the lyrics in the song make it obvious that he is being carried in a casket through a church and then buried. In any case, the singer would like his friends to look at the brighter side of things when he dies, for them to sing songs of Christianity for him so he can hear that they've accepted the turn-out of things. "Save sorrow for the souls in doubt". To me, that part means that his friends KNOW he's going to go to Heaven, so they shouldn't be sad because they know he's going to a much better place and to save their sorrow for someone who doesn't know where their friend's going when they die. Deep song. Demon Hunter's songs are always deep. |

I love this song! It's great :) Tis one of my favorites. Within Temptation is a good band all-together. I'm not quite sure what it makes me think of though, a multiple number of things. Not so much the words put into a situation, more of the sound of the music that makes me think about things. When I listen to the song, I think about wars, I think it's because of the choir in the song. I'm not sure. I'm weird. But, I've never really paid attention to the words, I mostly just like to sit back and listen to the music and not the lyrics. Maybe that's why I have so many piano songs...:/... I'm an odd person. NOT THE POINT. Great song. Love it. Moving on... |
