And I have to speculate That God himself did make us Into corresponding shapes Like puzzle pieces from the clay This part always reminds me of Paradise Lost (Which I remember only because it's the epigraph to Frankenstein): "Did I request thee, Maker, from my clay To mould man? Did I solicit thee From darkness to promote me?" This song is perfect! |

| Bright Eyes – It's Cool, We Can Still Be Friends Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| there is nothing to say that hasn't been said. when i first heard this song, i could only sympathize with the raw emotion. now i can empathize and it is even more piercing, striking, and poignant. | |

| Tom said this song is related to the lyrics of "Searching For a Former Clarity" and "The Disco Before The Breakdown". But he didn't reveal what he meant by the line "If I could have chosen, I would have been born a woman", he said he wanted to leave it up to personal interpretation. | |

this song is sort of heartbreaking. it has so much nostalgia. He left her, she talks about all the things she misses. September 2 to April 13, probably how long she has gone on without him, but she says "but who's counting" to make it seem as if she does not care that much. She regrets not saying what she should have when she had the chance. I love the last stanza about how she left him to be with his art, it shows conflicting feelings, the confusion of love and relationships. |

I think it's about a girl and guy who are best friends. They kissed, it made things weird. He confessed feelings for her "don't second guess your feelings, you were right from the start". She wants to get together with him, but waited too long and she can't have successful relationships with any other guys because he is still on her mind. "I'm with another boy, he's asleep I'm wide awake. He can try to win my heart but it's taken..." this song is so relatable. I agree with both trentmil and embeminem. |

this song to me seems to go back and forth between being in love and having lost it and the gamut of emotions that are felt. is it just me or could red elephant be a metonym for something sexual? |

to me, this reminds me of regretful sentiments post-breakup. you need to get rid of your past to forget the relationship. you need to get rid of the memories or else "they're never going to leave you alone." probably a messy breakup in my opinion, since he mentions not wanting the truth to be told, and also talks about "are you in or are you out" which could allude to an on-off sort of relationship. |

"on each street is a tree in the distance the desert sleeps " reminds me of Cittagazzee and the hornbeam trees in the Subtle Knife by Philip Pullman. |
