The Smiths – How Soon Is Now? Lyrics 13 years ago
We are the product and followers of a system that does not connect people as we intend to be connected. Clubs being the social playing ground. Nothing is solved by searching there, yet, the mind and body long to belong, as humans do.

MGMT – Siberian Breaks Lyrics 13 years ago
In really random ideas taken throughout the song:
While humans can make such achievements or goals as landing on the moon, we're more excited to see things fail or go wrong. Perhaps because it exploits something we all have in common in life, failure. Group grieving or bondage through an event is something we can relate to more than getting ahead.
"floating away isn't rough but it's not enough"
"close to the ground like a wheel but it's not enough"
"nobly wasting the night, but it isn't right"
"running away isn't rough, but it's not enough"
Possibly disappointed that people hope and anticipate that life's pleasures are simple, but they're not. They're not complete. MGMT doesn't want to sell out to these simple pleasures, and while the music industry and its consumers may be gung ho on more Oracular Spectacular music, the band would rather die before they get sold continuing the hopeless dilemma of searching for their desires.

If you realize what you've demanded from the world and yourself, see the damage that is done. It will stop you from ever doing damage again. You'll wake and see the issue at hand, as well as the situation attacking you.

MGMT – Siberian Breaks Lyrics 13 years ago
I like your thinking here, mainly because it's an idea.
This could be interpreted to liken to the position of the Soviet satellite countries. As Russia sees supplies come in and out, he cry against greater demand is quieted by protection.

This song confuses me as to whether it's one complete concept and one story. If so, one could see that being conscious in a system where you are being exploited by a governing country would make you depressed.. However, I see the tie to the preceding lines that are astounded by what turns humans on in life. Or, it could be about the race to the moon in that no matter who would get there first, perhaps politically either side would like to see the other fail, instead of seeing humanity progress. Then the rest is different to that

Katy Perry – Electric Feel (MGMT cover) Lyrics 13 years ago
synth, & bass parts are easier to pick up on (of course; it's acoustic). Not to mention the vocals for this song are amazing. I enjoy hearing more of her range without auto-tuning.

Katy Perry – Electric Feel (MGMT cover) Lyrics 13 years ago
Honestly, "Electric Feel" is one of the few songs off MGMT's first full-length album I didn't enjoy as much, it just has a lot less going for it throughout the song than their other pieces. I think Perry's version flows a lot smoother and is a more mellow, which is something I don't mind hearing from a pop-artist. I can also understand the lyrics, and the extra guitar, synth,

Fair to Midland – Coppertank Island Lyrics 14 years ago
I think this song is about war, where soldiers are sent off to battle, and don't challenge their leader's orders. They can't, it's their duty. They may be "wrong" in their actions, but the "right" are not willing to fight and defend themselves. The right know what the pain of losing their children is (eggshell carpet), but they won't fight to not see it, and fighting would bring that pain to someone else. The right are also holding back their loved ones in this analogy.

Heroes and spiritual saviors, which one steps on each other's toes and risks their life? Heroes risks life and steps on morals by killing, while the saviors risk their life often through lose of the physical battle.

As far as which war, the line "He said, "take your time," but didn't back his words," probably tells you.

I love the line "Remember this, it's just two cents: Two cents never made you rich"

As for the whale, well, it could be Jonah judging the two sides.

The Black Eyed Peas – The Time (Dirty Bit) Lyrics 15 years ago
I have to say that is seems like the continuation of a downfall for the Black Eyed Peas. This song obviously uses the chorus of "(I've Had)The Time of my life," a song about love and being at the peak of your life. Black Eyed Peas turned that tranquil meaning into just meaning less, I want to party attitude.

It exemplifies pop music of today with it's occasional use of low tone vocals, musical stutters (if you can call them musical), recycling of words from other pop songs. It's nothing new, but it lets the public know that the Peas have really knocked themselves off of the top-notch productions of their early 2000's material.

"A-All these girls they like my swagger
They calling me Mc Jagger
I be rolling like a stone"

This line is the answer to one of Ke$ha's pop hits. I hope the Peas haven't sunk that low.

The song also uses references to popular apple products, also seen in Sean Kingston's "replay." Perhaps because it's popular and he can rhyme.

I think the only phrase used in this song that hasn't popularly been used before is:

"Cause I'm having
A good time with you"

Which shows that Peas are desperate to make another pop hit to play at parties, focusing on quantity, not quality, the downfall of popular music these days.

Green Carnation – Light Of Day, Day Of Darkness Lyrics 15 years ago
Indeed, an amazing song. My college buddies showed me this song two years ago, I wish I would have posted this back then. I'd like to actually discuss the song, since this is called songmeanings.

I have heard that this song may be about his child dying, but I want to dive into the text. I haven't found anything about the death, so I shall just interpret from the song.

The beginning seems to show Tchort visiting heaven and possibly seeing his son, who is soon to be lost (before the fall). Maybe he realized this would happen and he feels that he could have changed that. This seems like a prolonged death, such as cancer, or perhaps a miscarriage.

In his dream he sees that he and his world changes. He starts to go insane, and sees hell, or deeper inside his dream (the gates of the endless halls). The next part he seems to think that he created these dreams, so he can change them, or end them.

He dreams again in hope of creating a perfect world, one where your child doesn't die. He fails, as this is just a dream, and he is bound to be alone. I think he wants to play God, and he can't get his way, right is wrong, justice is gone. He asks for forgiveness for trying to do this. Do we exist because one God was alone? Should Tchort not have the same justice?

Completely underrated song! The background music and emotion plays so much into the text, and shows more than the text too! Boo to allmusic for only a 3 out of 5 rating!

Trapt – Waiting Lyrics 16 years ago
I agree with all of you guys, to add to how I relate to this, I'm waiting for someone too, and I've been away from them for a couple weeks now, and all I do is dream. Dream about what I wish for, and not reality. I'm waiting for reality to sink in and kick me in the face, but I just keep getting fooled by the illusions in my head that she wants me. Or else the illusion is that she once liked me and it all seemed to disappear once we started going out. Either way, great song that just hits you in the face when you can relate to it.

Wintersun – Winter Madness Lyrics 18 years ago
WoW I ccan't believe i'm the first to post, well I can tell you this, this song is awesome enough that I made a profile on this website to tell you that. I think it might be about suicide and trying not to commit suicide "You don't have to die"
"My hands are frozen, my mind is at the edge of madness
Oh how many nights and days, I've been lost in this land of sadness"
"The forces of the Winter reign in dreadful way, there's no escape"
I also think that Jari might be using winter as a metaphor for one he loved that he was dying to live for her. But I really don't know
