So this isn't actually my idea, this is what my boyfriend said but I thought it sounded good:
One sister is addiction (any kind) while the other is the will to fight the addiction.
It seems like there might be some drug references with the scents and the smoke and it seems like it's something he's really struggling with.
It's hard to describe, but it's like he feels like neither one of them is good and he'd love to just get away from #1 addiction and #2 the need to fight the addiction. If it were up to him he wouldn't have to worry about either, but it's what his whole life has turned into. That's all he focuses on and does (the last few lines). Ultimately though, they'll both sing on his grave because one or the other will kill him. |

i just think it's about someone who can't stand themselves. he hates what's "inside", as in inside himself. going somewhat crazy with all the talk of being out of his mind. maybe he's depressed or something. anyways, it sounds like he just wants to get the fuck out of his own head for a second but he can't and he's helpless, hence the "bird and worm" metaphor. |

THE song.
i always imagine the same thing when i'm listening to this (they should make a music video for it. now.)...some guy is driving to see his depressed girlfriend and at the first chorus, he walks into her house and she's laying on the floor after taking a bottle of sleeping pills or something so he panics and calls the ambulance blah blah blah...they take her to the hospital and he's spazzing and right before the last chorus when it gets kind of quiet for a second, the doctor comes out and shakes his head because she died. then during the last chorus the boyfriend is like freaking out and screaming and trashing the waiting room...then at the end he just collapses. what a wicked video that would make. |

does anyone else get the feeling that they do it twice in this song?
like, the part "dark little heaven at the top of the stairs/take me like that/ruin it all/then build it again by the light in the hall" makes me think of a dark heaven (them having sex) before they even get up the stairs (take me like that)...then they build up the sexual tension and get aroused and such even just walking down the hall to the bedroom (build it again by the light in the hall)
idk, maybe it's just me. the entire song is SPECTACULAR. not even words to describe it. she's obviously screwing around with him but he loves her so much...it's so incredibly painful and easy to relate to. |

ahhhh! all i can think of when i hear this song is the scene in last kiss when zach braff and rachel bilson hook up. it's PERFECT...especially how they make it fit to the music. basically it's nothing short of a spectacular song. |
