Woodsy makes a good point about the "write your name in the sky", it's also possible he could be boasting to his buddies for street cred, though. I like the substance-affected losing control / falling in love double entendre, although people will always read into a song what they can pick out as relating to them (or relate to kids years after the release to the point of obsessing over how they don't get any of the meaning because they like the hook - so long the musicianship is catchy enough for them to buy the song, it still makes money and leaves an impact on the world). Favourite other allegorical stoner songs, anyone? I nominate Cello Song (Nick Drake), With or Without You (U2), Semi-Charmed Life (Third Eye Blind). |
