| Haha how is that scary? Just cuz someone isn't christian means they can't like Christian themed music? I'm not Jewish, but I love Matisyahu's music. Music is mankind's best form of expression, and since the majority of Christian music is uplifting and positive, I don't get your comment. Just my 2 cents :) | |
| Ivoryline – Left Us Falling Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| The last lines are pretty powerful too. It seems sometimes in life when we are at our lowest, others seem to take pleasure in this instead of helping you out. Especially as a Christian, it seems that others may feel that you can't fail or falter, and if you do, somehow you are a hypocrite or something. | |
| Ivoryline – All You Ever Hear Lyrics | 16 years ago |

What is the difference? A bunch of Christians in a band or a Christian band? To me it's exactly the same. I love how people think that Christians don't have relationship issues, lives, friends, family and other things from Life. Kinda reverse judgment? |

Zomg- Don't judge religion and Christianity based on that idiot Paradiso. Religion does serve a purpose, otherwise mankind would go around saying God's plans are whatever they deemed "right". But I agree that most of organized religion needs to be taken for what it is... an organization that has been corrupted by mankind. I can see both points to the religion vs relationship argument, and honestly I believe both have a medium that needs to be reached for a prefect relationship with God. |

Howard and KSE are simply amazing! Again, there is always a huge debate on the whether or not Howard's lyrics are religious, secular, or quasi- religious, but to me this song is pretty clear. I take it to be about Howard pleading with someone (God, a loved one, both) for forgiveness on the things he's done in life. He is breaking down admitting his faults and hoping that the someone will be willing to forgive him and still be there for him, despite his failings. This reflects a strong biblical message in my opinion based on how Jesus has always said that no matter how many times we as people fail, His love and forgiveness will always be there. My 2 cents. Enjoy. |

I like the new album already!!! This sound isn't just about President Obama, but also his supporters and the country in general, but on a much deeper level than just politics. Very interesting. Our country hated President Bush so much on a majority that when Obama was campaigning and was elected, people utterly believed he was our country's savior. I can't remember how many people I saw crying, and almost worshiping him on Election day. This is where the song's message comes into play. While many fans will disagree about the religious backgrounds of KSE's lyrics, there is a bit of it in this song. "You are no God to me You are nothing to me This is the reckoning Enjoy this while it lasts It won't be long before it dies You've stolen lies, and broken dreams No man can be your deity" This is referring to how mankind cannot be it's own God. So many of our country put their absolute belief in the new president that they believed the world in itself was going to change. It seems to me that these verses are Howard saying that no man can be God, and that in the end all of the lies that mankind will try to portray will fail in the end. In the end, no matter what happens with our leaders, we are not the decider of our futures. "The betrayed, will now see the truth And the broken-hearted, will finally heal You will be judged You will be found wanting and we'll be there to see you fall." These lines are almost Howard saying what has seemed to be the Obama campaign of recent. (Although I admit that almost every politician does this) many of the selling points of Obama's campaign have been reversed or stalled since he came to power. Eventually, everyone will start to see what was said and what is happening is very different. I am not trying to be a Obama basher because honestly I hate when people complain about our great country's leaders, but this song does point to much of our current situation. |

Deatha - I agree to a certain extent. The title is pretty funny once you read the Wikipedia page, but I think DWP had a bigger message than just picking fun at Scientology (although this is one of the few songs that the title has to do with the song subject). I think the song is about the lead singer saying that in the end, they are up on the stage for one reason; to spread the message of God. Not be preachy or anything, but none the less spread the message to whoever will listen. They are not on the stage to make tons of money, become stars, etc. I remember an interview I saw when the band members said that "they are doing music to praise God for the talent He gave them as well as reach out to people". The song then progresses about how the history of story telling (music) has become full of pride, narcissism, etc. from the world's POV, but the story from Jesus and DWP will not have any of that. It offers love, hope, etc.; things that are not as prevalent in the world. |

The "Bush Thing" is kinda too easy to use as an answer. This song is not just about politics, but society in general. Bush was not the only president that has led to where our country, and world, is heading. But in the big picture, isn't everything happening leading down to where the end point is? One after another, nobody stands behind the ones they have chosen One after another, nobody stands behind the ones they've selected Nobody stands behind the nation they've selected. This could mean Bush, but could mean Obama as well. The important point I think the singer is trying to make is that everything you see in the world is of no real importance. Mass media, society, etc. is trying to blow everything out of proportion to create fear. Disease, war, crime, all of this is bad, but why should people worry if God has their back? The last lines of "So be angry at yourself, If only we did not deserve this" is awesome! Basically this is not about a political vote, but a reflection on how we as mankind have let our values and cultural standards drop so low, that we now reap what we have sown. |

| The Devil Wears Prada – Sassafras Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| That's what I got out of it too. I heard a girl the other night saying statistics on how many times it takes to get someone to accept Christ. I stared at her like she was retarded. There should be no number in this ideal at all. One person that rights their life is just as important as 100, ya know? | |

| The Devil Wears Prada – Big Wiggly Style Lyrics | 16 years ago |

Chelsrouk- Kinda close, but what I took from the song is a little different. It seems that the singer is talking about how "churches" of the present day are becoming more for man than for God. All around the world is getting worse and society is suffering, yet we keep looking to answers from ourselves (elements of man) instead of the elements of God. Churches for the most part are more for profit than helping society reach God. Everywhere you see congregations spending millions for their buildings and social clubs, instead of reaching out to the poor. I'm not saying all churches, but as a majority. I like the line "What was right, now wrong". An important reflection on mankind's mindset currently..... |

| Oh Sleeper – Charlatan's Host Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
Wow this song is really powerful. It helps to think of it in two separate parts, or chapters. The first part is the singer asking and describing the devastation around him. He is asking God how He can allow the destruction and evil to exist. Why God doesn't punish the sinners for what they are doing and why God is not serving justice. "Set fame to derail whats innocent. Why spare the life of inglorious waste? Why let him live? He's just hunting your own! How can you just sit there and watch? " The second part begins with the lines.... "Because I love you more than you know. Look again and tell me what you see!" In the window was me. The massacres were all me! The second part is when the singer has the realization that the sinners were really himself. He realizes he was part of all the evil and destruction in the world. But God keeps telling him that He will forgive the singer just as He offers forgiveness to the rest of the world. Very well put. |

| Haste the Day – Autumn Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
Yes and No. I agree with the whole idea about forgetting your past sins and that stuff, but the song has more a retrospective POV. More like a man looking back on his life and seeing the different stages that he went through, and to where he is now going ie afterlife? Very bittersweet. |
|
| Haste the Day – Resolve Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
This song reminds me of society as a whole. The fire, the burning, the tension is the pull of the world with their values, ideals, and temptations in regards to the Christian view of life. The song is saying don't let the fire bother you because in the end, the fire will go out and the word of God will prevail. |

| Anberlin – Burn Out Brighter (Northern Lights) Lyrics | 17 years ago |

woc2oom - I like how you were able to take a song with ambiguous lyrics and decide for yourself that it had no Christian meaning at all just because someone pulled a quote from AP. Did it ever occur to you that the singer may have been toning down the purpose of a song as not to bias or categorize the song topics? I've noticed that a lot of the most talented artists can take lyrics that have a Christian undertone, and yet still write them to appeal to non-christian listeners. This song is a perfect example. The basic idea of the song is to live your life to the fullest, but not for yourself. Sacrifice is the greatest gift you can give. Yet, the funny thing is that that is a major idea throughout Christianity. Even if Christian wrote the songs with a focus on helping under privileged people, again you hit a idea that originated with Christianity. Christians are "supposed" to help one another including the sick and less fortunate. Don't close your mind down. |

| Blessthefall – Rise Up Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
"How many times have you watched me fall just to smile, I've been through thick and thin we've struggled through now we smile" I love these lines. I keep picturing it from the POV of God or Jesus looking down at how sometimes people have to fail to succeed. Sorta like if you have a puppy and you laugh when they trip over their feet, but if they are in need you help them out. And in the end, He is always there to help, like a perfect parent figure. |

| Destroy the Runner – A Mountain so Big, a Question so Small Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
Exactly. Both sides of the view of Christianity. The "saved" believe that life will be totally peachy, and the ones that do not are angry why they do not have it so easy. But both sides do not see the other side of their possible choices. The saved will go through rough times, and the other could get help from God if they asked. |

| Destroy the Runner – Luxuria Lyrics | 17 years ago |

I agree njspeedbeast but I can't seem to tie it all together. "You've got today, but you always say that you'll change tomorrow. Good intentions fade when you sit and say that you'll change tomorrow". This is one of those lines telling people to realize that they are only promised the moment they are alive and not another more, so don't procrastinate about the future of your soul. This song is a bit confusing because I'm not sure who the singer is really cursing, but in the end it seems like he is against the Devil. |

| Destroy the Runner – I, Lucifer Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| Ballstothewall31 and xoEmergencyTDM - I agree but maybe its a combination.... likening all of the money hungry Priests and Preachers unto a tool of the Devil ie the Devil himself. Think about how when you see a preacher speaking about giving to the poor and then drives away in his fancy car. That may turn off people to the idea of following Christ...making the Devil glad. | |
| Destroy the Runner – A Bag of Marbles Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| It almost seems that the girl in the song is making excuse why the break up needs to happen. Like distance, a jealousy of the singer's religion or relationship with God, among others. I don't think the girl was atheist, but that could be part of why they break up. | |
| As Cities Burn – Clouds Lyrics | 18 years ago |

| As Cities Burn – Wake Dead Man, Wake Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| Ukhardcore - I don't think I could agree anymore. Case in point, if Christians as a whole were not to touch secular ideas and items, then what would be the point at all of trying to talk about God and salvation to people that haven't heard of Him? That is exactly why bands such as As Cities Burn and UnderOath play at a lot of other secular concerts. | |
| As Cities Burn – Admission: Regret Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
I'm going to go with xcrazy and nobodies on this one. I don't think the love being mentioned is a past love like a girl or anything, but rather a much deeper love. When he mentions "her voice" I think that is just like using the female characteristic for Mother Earth or any other female terms like that. It's not really a girl. Basically the song is about someone so used to, so tied up in everyday temptations and habits that they are getting fed up with it. But they are crying out for help because they have heard about that there is another way of life than what is handed to us everyday. The line "give me a servants heart and a tongue to obey" pretty much gives the song the final aspect of the main message being a religious message of the cry being from a man unto God. |

| As I Lay Dying – The Darkest Nights Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
Crap I wish this site had an edit option. Above when I said the "God WILL NOT allow His followers to be killed by Satan." I kinda worded that wrong. There have obviously been Christians killed throughout the entirety of time for their belief (Byzantine Empire, Romans, Greeks, missionaries across the globe these days), but what I meant with that statement is that just like in the video, God will not allow his followers to suffer at the hands of Satan. Anyone else have any ideas about how this song-video is representive? Sorry to get preachy guys.... |
|
| As I Lay Dying – The Darkest Nights Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
Metal-Life - I didn't catch that there was only four black horseman (aka the Four Horseman of Apocalypse). Interesting. By just reading the lyrics to the song, I can see that both Christian and Emotional point of views can work. But if you put the video together with the song, it definately has a more religous aspect to it. To sum it up, the black horsemen are hunting and killing off the citizens, all the way down to the last desperate wife and her child. She is running until she reaches her darkest hour, right before the dark forces are about to kill her. Just when all hope is lost, the white horseman (which way outnumber the black horsemen I might add) arrive to save her. This is a direct representation to the teachings in the Bible. Let me elaborate. A basic belief of Christianity is that the Devil and God are at battle with each other, partialy for mankind's souls. The devil resides here on earth as his domain, while God is in Heaven. The devil is allowed to test mankind and try to influence them to do the evil he loves (all of the crap you see going on throughout history), but God WILL NOT allow His followers to be killed by Satan. Back to the video.....the black forces are decimating the world up until the last woman reaches her darkest hour of hope, and then the forces of light show up. I'm not trying to say anything personally whether you believe in God or not, but as a band of Christians, their beliefs have definately influenced their music. |
|
| As I Lay Dying – Nothing Left Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| I do believe that this song along with the video do have spiritual undertones. Everything said above about having a relation about Jesus and such forth does have validity, but I'd like to also add the video into perspective. Small things, the like the Roman Collesium *sp and the crowds screaming for bloodshed are a reminder of in the past when the Roman empire executed Christians for their belief. I believe they were fed to the lions or set on fire on stakes as a "pre game" for the Roman gladiator fights. As well as in the past, this song/video is a nod to the things predicted in the Book of Revelations. A very interesting combo. | |
| August Burns Red – Up Against The Ropes Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| I'm going with WrathofGod on this one. Almost a song about the people that have decided to persecute followers of Jesus in the end of times, and the singer reminding them that their actions will be taken into account after everything goes down. | |
| August Burns Red – The Truth of a Liar Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| AdamBurnsRed I think is the closest although all have had bits that are close. I think it is a call to every faithful christian to stop talking the talk and to start walking the walk. I totally agree with the engulfing part about so many people christian and non christian that justify the things they do in life by just doing and not accepting the consequences of their decisions. But the last stanza is interesting with the "log in the eye" reference from the Bible. Basically being stated that people that are commiting wrongs have no place in telling others their faults when they are just as wrong. | |
| Thrice – Night Diving Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| Maybe a related idea tying together this song "Take me to the Ocean" and the previous song "Open water" like Dustin is commenting on how he would like to be taken to the destination he described in the previous song? | |
| Thrice – Digital Sea Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
I kinda agree with the idea of being totally enveloped in the digital age to almost an unhealthy level. I think the song comes in two parts though. The first stanza and second stanza seems to be Dustin relating how our society is becoming so enveloped in digital gratification (be it ipods, text message, AIM) that we are losing the ability to interact with people in person to person situations. The sirens reference seems to refer to seduction, or pornography, being addicting as well online. The chorus is where Dustin is crying out to his voice being lost in all the digital dehumanization occuring, ending with his voice being converted to a simple 0's and 1's, or binary code or rather a number now instead of a person's voice. As a reflection, this song has hit me kinda hard. Some may laugh, but the internet is very addicting. Whether is is downloading music, Facebooking, or just chatting on AIM, I personally used to waste way too much time of my life staring at this screen. Whether you believe your wasting of time like this to be a waste of time or a waste of your God given potential in life, Dustin has made a very good observation. |
|
| Thrice – The Arsonist Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| Honestly in everyone's posts, I can see revalence. When I heard this song for the first time, a kinda different picture formed. To me, this song has relation to christianity, but not the typical message. It almost seems to me that Dustin is talking about the current state of Christianity in today's society. Talking about how there are still a few good people that are sincere in their faith, but that the many of "christians" nowadays are in it for the mega churchs and money/power. This song seems like a wake up call to start realizing that christianity nowadays is not was it was meant to be, it should be selfless and forgiving, not commercialized. The interesting point is about watching the "city" burn to cleanse it. Any thoughts on this? Maybe some kinda of realization that change must be made or else the true meaning of spirituality will be lost in all the power hungry and hate? Thoughts? | |
| Anberlin – The Unwinding Cable Car Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
What I don't understand is how one group always is saying how "I'm not religious, but I think its about not giving up" while the religious group can see that it "is about not giving up either". Personally I see no separation in the meaning of these lyrics for either group. Although the section of leans more towards a spiritual sense...... "You're like an unwinding cable car. Listening for voices, but it's the choices that make us who we are. Go your own way. Even seasons have changed. Just burn those new leaves over. So self-absorbed, you've seemed to ignore the prayers that have already come about." This to me is almost like God (or Christian the lead singer) almost chastising people for always asking for things while completely taking for granted the things God has already done for them. Not that God will never answer them in the walk of life, but to be grateful. Honestly having to state I believe this because I am christian or not christian defeats the purpose of the song. Many Christian messages reflect the positive messages of the world, so we need to get over trying to categorize ourselves, seriously. |

| Inhale Exhale – Your Walls...My Words Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| A call to give up your wordly cares inturn to live a live based on the Bible. Case point shoot. | |
| Inhale Exhale – Tonight We Die Together Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| Strikes me that the singer is breaking up with a girl that was bad for him whether spiritually/emotionally/etc. He is singing about how tonight is the last night that he will allow her memory to haunt him and that he is turning everything over to God to help him cope with the situation of finding the right girl for him.. | |
| Inhale Exhale – A Call To The Faithful Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
"A simple conversation sparks the love inside of him" I love this line. It's saying that even though this person has been living a life that is less than perfect, someone took the time to talk to him about his life/Jesus, and it sparked something inside of him. Then he realized that he had been living a fake life, hurting people around him while caring only for himself. and the last lines indicate a change or a call to change his life for the better. |
|
| Killswitch Engage – Still Beats Your Name Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| Songs like make me realize how much I love Killswitch. I love how they can write songs that can appeal to different groups of people. Personally, as a Christian, I have taken so many positive messages from this band and I can't wait to see them live soon! | |
| Killswitch Engage – My Curse Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| Break the Silence- Man, at first I did kinda vision the song about longing for someone you loved (maybe g/f or wife becuase I didn't see any lines with a blatant Christian message. but as soon as you mentioned changing the point of view from mankind to actually God's, it changed the whole perspective for me. It is definately one of my favorites from KSE now. The idea of Jesus's curse being how we treat Him and almost forget Him nowadays, is so powerful and sad. | |
| Killswitch Engage – Eye of the Storm Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
Collegeguy666 - Dude, although this song can relate to standing by someone's side throughout trials and problems, there a couple verses that hint to deeper meanings. "After all this time Still you struggle Even words of love Ring so hollow" A basic belief of Christianity. No matter what God has said to mankind aka Bible or whatever, even the kind and non "rule making" ones, we still don't listen to Him very well and as a result, we as mankind struggle so much (war, murder, theft, depression, etc). "I have no regrets I have no remorse And if you falter I wont let you down" This struck me as a person saying that they are perfect, although not bragging but rather saying that becuase of the perfectness of their character, they will never let you down. And honestly, I do not believe anyone alive in this world is perfect, except for Jesus. You may say that this is just Christian crap, but KSE's lyrics in their songs are an upbeat, "live life for more than the daily and selfish grind the rest of the world knows all too well" outlook on life. |
|
| Killswitch Engage – Desperate Times Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
Str463 - You're right. The entire song is Howard relating the desperate times of his life to the pain and anguish that Jesus went through in his crucifixtion. It cracks me up how people cannot see this relationship even when this song has blatant clues...(crown of thorns, rusty nails, CRUCIFIXTION?) This song is awesome though becuase you can almost feel how much Howard is pleading for God to remember him when his time comes, that he tried his hardest to stand true and strong throughout his daily trials. |
|
| Killswitch Engage – Rose of Sharyn Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
Beno 275 "OMG WHY DOES EVERYONE REFER KSE SONGS TO RELIGION??? " Dude, seriously. Almost every song they have written has christian or religious undertones to the lyrics. Honestly for this example.... The Rose of Sharyn.. Look back in the Bible and it refers to Christ as that exact title...and that was written how many years back? Plus the basis of the song (losing someone but getting to see them again)(praying)(mourning for people that never met jesus) all have religious outlooks. Id it was based for something in the world, it wouldn't make much sense would it? Would you mourn for people that never met your deceased grandma? Exactly....put 2 and 2 together jeez. |
|
| Killswitch Engage – Hope Is... Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| Iceman87 - KSE may not be officially genre'd as Christian, but take a look at the latest album As Daylight Dies and the religous connotations are blatant. Sure you can relate most christian messages to be kin to relationship and social issues we see today, but isn't that the basis of Christianity anyways? A positive outlook on life and how we should fix it? | |
| As Cities Burn – Timothy Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| This song is an ode to a friend of the band's, Timothy Jordan. There is a dedication to him in the linear notes. I'm guessing he passed away suddenly, and the song is one describing the sorrow and shock that one goes through when someone close is suddenly taken from this world. | |
| As Cities Burn – Wrong Body Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
This song is rediculous! Cody is asking in the entire song the question of when heaven comes, will he be be deemed right to enter in. Basically the rest of the song is him saying how Jesus' sacrifice makes mankind so undeserving, yet no matter how dirty we get, he is willing to forgive us! |
