in an interview with Under The Radar Matt gave some hints as to some song titles. One of them was going to be called "She Tarred Her Own Roof". This is obviously that song. |

I still have no clue what "shoot the shoe" means however!
The bullet being to heavy and the smoke never clearing from the room I would take to mean that the narrator feels extremely guilty about shooting Kristi's shoe. |

I read in an interview that a lot of Widow City's lyrics were taken directly from images and articles they had seen in 70's magazine. Which is why a lot of the album doesn't make sense since it's sort of a collage of sorts.
I think this song really incoporates a lot of that. Nautical doormats, champion marigolds, could all be 70's imagery |

I like that interpretation a lot. I think most people correlate it with relationship steady because of the "talking like a teen" part, but the way Sara sings it doesn't seem to suggest that. |

does anyone know where this song came from? I know it's a Sainthood b-side but how was it leaked? Where does it fit with the rest of Sainthood? |

I feel as though the second part of the song would be Jenny, or maybe Melinda has fled the country because of all the drama with Tony and Tad and whomever else. Or it could just be one of the two girls creating a false reality to deal with her life now. |

I think this is the last song on Widow City for a reason. It's as if the narrator of the album is reflecting on all the adventures they've lead, and they've ended up in Widow City. Their adventures being the first 15 tracks. Since they're "drunk on wormwood" that would explain why the album is all disjointed and why there isn't a totally clear narrative throughout. "They've made my chain even heavier if you could imagine" could mean that since the events of the first 15 tracks took place, even more heaviness has happened to the narrator. "Negotiate the deserts and pits" would be the narrator reflecting on Cairo, Egypt, and Arabia... |

I think the "she" could be the man's girlfriend, and the narrator is the other woman.
Hence why she "lied all the way". Could be that she was lying about her relationship with the man to his actual girlfriend. It would also explain why she was lying about going to the motel... |

I'm not sure if it's "Megan's on the box" or if it's "baby's on the box" or if it even ends with "on the box"
so I'm sorry if it's not 100% accurate. It's just what I hear... |
