No, I don't think it's about helping someone that gives up. To me, it's about this guy (the singer) who really cares about this girl. Although they are really good friends, she still refuses to open her heart and make something of the relationship, even though deep down she wants to: "And it's alright if you feel like crying / But I won't leave you alone..." Eventually, she does open up, and they are happy together: "And it's alright if you can't stop smiling / Cause I know just how you feel..." I'm still trying to piece together the most powerful part of the song, though - about him not being able to save them both anymore... maybe that he can't keep carrying both sides of the relationship, and as a hero, he finally pulls her out of her shell? |
