Melotonin is a chemical produced by the pineal gland (in the brain, but not part of the brain) that is slowly released in increasing amounts while you're awake. Eventually, there is so much of it in your system that you can't help but to pass out from overload. This is the reason melatonin is used as a sleep aid. Higher doses of melatonin increase REM sleep (a.k.a. dream sleep). So taking a lot of melatonin causes you to dream more. A lack of melatonin is associated with insomnia As for the song: "she ran into the wall so sweet and unknown a worn comatose" A girl that the singer knows has died in a car crash. "after six milograms we're talking again who would know sweet and so low who would know" He takes 6 mg of melatonin (a higher-than-average dose) and talks to her in his dreams. "my brain doesn't produce any i'm soaring without anything" He's losing sleep over her death. He's become an insomniac (i.e. his brain isn't producing melotonin). "she said i'm taking my time and now we'll move on with everyone i'll see my friend soon again" In his dream, he knows that she's in a better place, and he'll see her after he dies Basically this song is about a dream that the singer had after taking melatonin to combat his insomnia. I think it's one of the more beautiful of their songs |
