I agree that I don't think he has any sort of relationship with this person. I think it's someone he sees, and is totally infatuated with, but it's troubling because he can't seem to do anything about.
I'm curious to know what everything thinks the title is about "Between the rent and me." Obviously taken from the line: "there are so few things between the rent and me". Makes me think of that feeling you get when you know you should do something, but somehow you don't. Kind of frustrated for no reason sort of feeling. Which could be how he feels about the person with blue eyes in the song. Someone he wants to approach but just... isn't. |

It's interesting that few people acknowledge (in any discussion of their lyrics) that the subject is most likely about God. Being as they are a Christian band. Now this is not saying that they exclusively sing about God, and that even the song probably has duel meanings... but it's not all about relationships, in the boyfriend girlfriend sense. In fact I bet it's less about the latter, and more about God.
