It's pretty much just a story of the end of the world. In the first verse he's searching what he can do. He's wondering what all this even means. By the second verse he starts freaking out. Then he just stops, collects himself and decides there is nothing he can do to stop it so he realizes that all he has left to do is look back at everything he has accomplished. |

I dissagree with vivalainfu. I loved the live version. It was my favorite of thier whole set and I had never even heard it before. As for the meaning it makes so much more sense with the suicide thing now. I'll add a few things to the story and see what you guys think. To me this sounds like a boy killed himself over a girl who was acting like she liked him, but it was a joke that her friends put her up to. That would explian what "The Joke" is because his suicide obviously is no joke. So now he's saying to the girl "The jokes on you because your joke is what made me kill myself". The reason I decided it's over a girl is because of the line "should have been my first kiss". Someone earlier said he lost his last friend, but if he was trying to kiss his friend then that freind left for a good reason! A few more things. I figured out the line about "wearing his team to death" means he used his favorite sports team's shirt to hang himself. Lastly, is "My big escape is my last mistake. You better turn around. Don't throw it away tonight" means that in his last moments he regretted hanging himself. He realizes that he overeacted and should have taken more time to think about it. |

| I agree with Incubus man that it's about a break-up. However, I disagree with what he said a little. He's not saying the whole relationship was "wasted time". He's saying that it was good at the start but, inocence became jaded and sentiments became hopeless. So now the time until they break up is "wasted time" and he just wants to get it over with. | |

I think this song is about a crush that the singer is afraid to tell the person they are in love with. She wonder if maybe the other person feels the same, but is also too afriad to tell her. Thinking "what if". Since, she won't admit it she'll never know and this not knowing ends up eating her up inside. Each day she wonders if she could be with this person who she really loves, but she just gets frustrated and eventually wishes that she never even fell in love with the person since it would make her life so much easier. It builds up so much that she just wishes someone would "come and take me away". That could mean two things. It could be death/suicide because she decides it's not worth it or she could just wish for someone else to date so she can just say she's taken and not have to worry about this crush. |
