It's about being addicted to Heroin. The video makes it obvious to, with Dave being chained to his bride, she represents the drug. Lyrics like "because my duty was always to beauty" show his addiction, and Dave was addicted at that time for sure. |

I think it's about someone contemplating suicide, probably the guy who wrote it, and when he's high as a kite, on drugs obviously, he may have the confidence to kill himself, and when he's low (withdrawing - this suggests the drug is Heroin) it's so bad that he thinks this may be the right time to kill himself, to end the pain and misery of withdrawing from Heroin. He is suicidal whether he's high, low, or normal. |

@oxsherrybabyxo You're correct about it being about Heroin, like a lot of Depeche Mode songs, maybe most of them, I've not counted. I listen to a lot of Depeche Mode songs and nearly are all about Heroin, one way or another. I can't think of a Depeche Mode song that isn't about Heroin right now, I'm not saying 100% of their songs are about Heroin but it's a very high percentage. |

I wasn't saying that Martin never did drugs, I was saying Dave wrote the lyrics - if you look at the lyrics in Dave's solo work, and compare with 'Martin's' lyrics, you'll see the similarity - the same person wrote them! (Dave.) |

There is a hidden lyric at about 1:38 and repeated a few times, it sound like a mix of voice and synth - I interpret it as 'give us a peaceful life,' although others have said it sounds like 'eight-thousand years go by.' |

Samwalton - yes, to avoid drawing attention to the real meanings to the songs. It's obvious that most DM songs are about or related to drugs; to pretend that Martin wrote the songs is a smokescreen. When Dave says in interviews, for example, that Shake The Disease was 'difficult to get the vocals right on,' he actually means the subject matter of the song is difficult. |

Its about the moment of bliss that you get from drugs, that moment - when all of your problems are solved, and everything is wonderful - the reference to 'my little girl,' is about heroin (+cocaine,) a 'little girl' is someone you can 'make love to' without producing children, which is why taking these drugs is like having a relationship with a 'little girl.' Also, the lyrics are by Dave. |

1. Dave wrote all of DMs songs - forget the credits, Dave wrote them, 2. It's about Heroin and Cocaine, wanting to always be high and escaped from his depression and impotence. |

It is about the beauty of the universe and the evolution of the soul. Dave Gahan made a sacrifice and although he had initial heartache and pain, he is now reaping the rewards with spiritual growth and soul evolution. This is about the journey all souls have to go through. |

This is about killing your potency (making yourself impotent) by heroin addiction. 'All I couldn't do today,' is about not being able to have an erection. It is about being in a very depressed mood because of this, and taking more heroin 'I'll drink to that.' 'I look to you' is about looking to the fans, who he (Dave Gahan) is in a pseudo-relationship with, they are his 'lover' when he takes the drugs, he can't now have a 'physical' lover. |
