The Shins – Sleeping Lessons Lyrics 18 years ago
Maybe this is a simple case of projection, but it seems quite obvious to me that this song is about, well, an eating disorder - Anorexia.

"Go without/'Til the need seeps in/You low animal" - 'the need' = food, nourishment. Anoretics often feel like a dumb beast after eating, because they gave in, had no control, operated on a cellular level of need like an animal.

"Eviscerate your fragile frame" - to put in simpler terms, 'hollow out your fragile frame'. I'm guessing this could be a reference to purging.

'A thousand different versions of yourself' - Anoretics often believe they can find a new version of themselves in a new body, in a new set of clothing, new hairstyle.

'They got nothing left on which you depend/So enlist every ounce/Of your bright blood' - The old guard could be parents, people who dissapprove of this girl's eating disorder, doctors, anyone in authority really. An anoretic's outlook is simply that they need absoloutely nothing, that they can survive of nothing, that they have mastery over their body. Hence, the guard has 'nothing left on which they depend'.

'You're not obliged to swallow anything you despise/See, those unrepenting buzzards want your life/And they got no right' - 'swallow anything you despise' = again, food, nourishment. 'those unrepenting buzzards want your life' = people suffering from anorexia often hold the staunch view that everyone against their eating disorder are simply out to get them, to ruin their lives (seen their ED is a large part of their life). From an anoretic's point of view 'they've got no right'.

'Their pudgy hearts and slimy hands' = everyone not endowed with an Eating Disorder is sometimes seen as dirty, slimy, fat, bizarre, beastly, etc etc.

Wonderful song, really amazing.

CocoRosie – Good Friday Lyrics 18 years ago
Well I'm all new to this whole thing but the way I see it, she's talking about how she fell in love with someone just because she could ("just because the sky turned from grey to blue" - i reckon this implies she fell in lvoe with him/her due to circumstance).

And as for the whole Santa Claus thing, she's saying she believes in Saint Nicholas, who was real, as opposed to Santa Claus - who (if you're below ten, look away) wasn't and isn't.

"I believe in St. Nicholas, It's a different type of Santa Claus". I think that's kind of simple, at least by my interpretation. Santa Claus is fictional, wheras Saint Nicholas was real. It's like saying 'I believe in love, it's a different type of fairytale'. I'm guessing.
