| Alice in Chains – Don't Follow Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| MJWhit518 - I feel the same. I still get sad and a little angry that he died. -Unlike Cobain. I like Nirvana's sound but not Kurt or his lyrics or suicide. A&C had so much talent. I think this song is about him rebeling against the norm and doing drugs like a 'good' young musician then he realizes the people that tried to keep him straight were right, but he has gone too far. He's begging for help now and the last line "Say goodbye, don't follow" That's his message- tell your friends goodbye if they offer drugs- don't follow them/him. | |

| "Success is the best revenge" That's what I think the song is about. She is being underestimated. Very catchy tune. | |
| Marcy Playground – Sunday Mail Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| Wow, this song was posted 5 years ago. It's one of my favorite MP songs. What's it about? This guy wants a confirmation from his girl so bad he waits for the Sunday mail. Ha, too funny. But so sad for this sap. Just how he throws "practically" in there make me laugh. I love these guys. | |

| This song is awesome. It makes me laugh and sing it everytime I hear it. | |
| Marcy Playground – Never Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| I like this song but not sure what it's about. It's a beautiful song but a guilty pleasure for me cause I thought it a bit morbid. I think he is taking a girl into the woods that he is in love with but does not like him and he has never been with her. He is raping her and he leaves, she gets away but dies-drowning and bleeding. It's awful, but that's the sadness of the song. I can follow SnowNinja, but what about the bleeding and breathing in the water? Does she kill herself? | |
| Nirvana – Come As You Are Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| The reason I say that about loggers and farmers and such is that Kurt did not like those types. He was prejudice to anybody that wan't his style of music. maybe if he gave any other type of music a chance he wouldn't have been depresses all the time. | |

It is about lyrics and how what he wrote has nothing to do with how he lived. So did he feel guilty about that? I think maybe so. April 8, 1995 = The day I found out he killed himself and looked for reasons to hate cobain. This person says it well but it been a long time so I'm reposting it.... by OwnPersonalDemon on 02-07-2002 @ 08:36:46 PM I dont think Kurt cared for the fans, his wife or his kid, and he proved that when he killed himself.Suicide is the ultimate selfish act....he obviously didnt care his suicide would cause hundreds of copycat suicides and he didnt care that his child would not grow without a father.Yeah he made great music, but as a human being, he wasnt much. You can wallow in your self pity or get over it.he obviously didnt get over it. " And I add he only cared about his fame and he thought that he was only going down from there because he decided he would never kick the drug habit (and his stomach pain?) he is a hippicryte because at least hippy's love. He was a wannabe hippy. By the way flannel shirts and jeans were not a grunge style. It's what loggers and farmers wear-and other people that built his stages, homes, apartments; grew his food, fuelled his fireplace, shaped his guitar before he was anything. So how many people sweat in the southern US dressed in jeans and a flannel in the summer so they could 'look' grunge. Well, I was an idiot kid once too. ...and now I'm just an idiot (yea I saw that coming) Junkies are so clever. |

| Does anybody else want to step up and critic Kobain. My god, so he played guitar and screamed (melodically, for sure) about how we should all..what? He had no answers, just complaints. Your all sucking up to him just like he hated people doing. He wanted money just like everybody else. If not he would have lived in a little apartment and given his money away. Hippicryte. | |
| Nirvana – Breed Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| It's about settling into the American "dream". You know, he despised happy white collar people. He thought conservatives where destroying his freedoms by trying to convince people that this is what life should be and he was afraid of it. I love Nirvana's music but the lyrics are that of an eight grade temper tantrum. I can't take Kurt too seriously. He was a junkie for christ sakes and he hated himself cause he couldn't be a real hippy. | |

| Violent Femmes – Out The Window Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| Yep, suicide. I think he just has enough of this chick and he's so high sprited and she upset him and he just takes her with him-but leaves a note. She must not have been able to read his handwriting. "We're what!" and she changes his mind on the way donw. Must be a New York couple. They're pretty high up. Maybe | |
| Violent Femmes – Never Tell Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
This is one of my favorite Femmes songs. It's really sick though. I think it's about a father raping his daughter and the brother is agreeing never to tell but that it should never happen again. He'll go to Hell if it means not telling what his father has done. He considers telling and talks himself out of it. He'd rather go to hell than become a rat fink Father, sister could be religous figures too. Maybe he's an alter boy. |

| Violent Femmes – See My Ships Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| About family members killing each other. | |
| Violent Femmes – American Music Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
Oh, I have to add that I think he is talking about the generation changes and music changes. "you were born too late. I was born too soon" Then later- "you were born too soon. I was born too late" and still later- "baby you were born too late and i was born too late" He's not singing to the same person through the song. |

| Somebody from Milwaukee help. Do you think ugly lake and ugly moon is because of the heavy industry in the Milwaukee area. I don't know, I haven't been there, just gotta know what this tune is about in my head right now! | |
| Violent Femmes – Fat Lyrics | 18 years ago |

Slightly Shinobi - You took the letter from my fingers. He is hoping his lost love gained a few pounds and will come back to him, even as a last resort! 'Cause if you got really fat, fat, fat You just might want to see me come back I hope you got FAT. |

| Violent Femmes – Old Mother Reagan Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| I was so glad to see there is no debate to the meaning of this song. Kudo's to the deep thinking SongMeanings posters for not trying to explain it. God I miss Reagan though and the damn Violent Femmes are one of my favorite bands - go figure. | |
| Disturbed – Deify Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| Has anybody seen Disturbed in concert? I don't know if Draiman always does this or he did the one time and stopped. I know I won't buy another one of their albums 'cause I don't pay to hear musicians give me their political views. But I have a funny story I think helps settle this debate and both sides of the aisle can enjoy. Disturbed came to Houston's Verizon Wireless Theater early '06. Between songs David Draiman says "So Texas..red state. Home of George Bushshsh...I can't wait 'til that mother fu**er is out of office." Boo's all around. So then Draiman turns from the crowd with a suprised look on his face. "Whoa, I didn't expect that." I mean, this guy is so out of touch he thinks he can go to a state that re-elects Bush for Governer and President and make a comment like that and be suprised at the boo's! But then the really funny thing (that pissed me off at the time) is the band breaks into Deify and the crowd goes nuts. Just happy as can be 'cause they have no clue what it's about. LOL. He had to be laughing to himself inside.---Anyway, I think he's saying he did put his trust in Bush (after 911 maybe) but now he's not happy with the result and as somebody said earier the religious right were making Bush the moral choice. It's about false idols. God is God and man makes mistakes. But I'm sure he wouldn't have come up with that if he wasn't angry with President Bush. If you think Bush is stupid you have to think Draiman is a 'tard. | |
| The White Stripes – Effect and Cause Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
Way to many metaphores to be about a couple having problems. Iraq is the biggest political theme in the country-that and immigration. He bookends the album with his politics. "Making sense of it all takes a whole lot of concentration." That's it in a nutshell. I think he is talking about US politicians voting to give the Bush administration authority to go to war then the politicians and the admistration see how everything went wrong and instead of blaming themselves they blame the Iraqi's. (and each other) " first came an action (911) and then a reaction (war on terror) but you can't switch around (let's go to Iraq instead of Saudi Arabia or more effort in Afgan) for your own satisfaction (So I don't have to listen to Saddam rant anymore and he tried to kill Bush Senior) well you burnt my house down (Iraqi's are like 'what the hell? Put down your weapons. You got him, go home already.') and then got mad at my reaction (all right then, we'll send you home our way or he's saying the people of the US when he says "MY reaction") It is about the politicians deflecting responsibility for Iraq. The comment made about Jack would come out and say it. To me, he is. but he might be looking for that out because he would disapoint too many people that are turned off by artists with opposing points of view to their own |
