I agree with most of the postings that the girl is looking for this ideal image of a boy she's had since she was a little girl. However it seems like most ppl see the girl as more innocent, being heart-broken over past relationships that have screwed her over. I interpreted this song slightly differently... the line "Waiting for some beautiful boy to save you from your old ways" always stuck out to me. Saving the girl from her old ways implies to me that she has some major flaw in her character. I think the girl's actions have set her up to be involved with some pretty scummy guys. Perhaps she's too easy. She feels like it's her fault and she deserves it, but she still holds on to that idea of a 'noble gentlemen'-type guy she imagined as a child... back when she was pure and innocent. The girl finally meets a guy that she thinks is good... she's aware he isn't perfect, but that's ok because she still feels like she doesn't really deserve that. The two get into a relationship, and the girl is trying to take things slow for once. the whole devil's water part is the singer's reminder to the girl that 'yea, sex is good but it's also kind of overrated. You don't have to rush it... do it once in a while and it will be more special, and be better." There's my two cents, hopefully it makes sense! (totally didn't mean for that to rhyme) |

When I first heard this song it was right before I left for my first year of college. I saw the Coldplay concert with my bf at the time and fell in love with it immediately. I was really in love with my bf then and it crushed me to have to leave him to go to college across the state. Therefore, this song always makes me think of a couple that are forced into a long distance relationship. They have a lot of issues, like jealousy (put me in a shelf and kept me to yourself- they dont' want the other to communicate with the opposite sex) and the girl forming feelings for other guys. In the beginning they both love eachother but as time progresses the girlfriend starts to move on but her boyfriend can't really handle it and his jealousy issues start to bother her. Being apart caused a lot of strain; the girl was meeting other guys and testing her boyfriend's trust and patience (you put me on a line and hung me out to dry). However at the same time this made the bf realize he couldn't take his gf for granted- other guys liked her too. This made him realize how great she really was and how much he was happy to have her (you cut me down to size and opened up my eyes). This is what made him want to go see her. The whole writing a book part is him just expressing how much he misses her being with him and he wants the world to know how he's feeling in hopes that she'll just go back home to him. Then he won't drown in his sorrow of jealousy as well as missing her so much. Next "the streets you're walking on a thousand houses long well that's where i belong and you belong with me". The girl lives in a big city perhaps, and he's saying he wants to be wherever she is bc they should be together. "Oh, what good is it to live with nothing left to give Forget but not forgive, not loving all you see" The boyfriend is continually jealous at his gf's new relationships with the opposite sex, and he feels like the love he is giving her is not enough. Thus he has given her all he can, and since that is not enough he feels desperate. The girl is trying to ignore her boyfriend's irrational jealousy, but she can't forgive it and that's all she can see in him. In the end of the song the repetition of "you belong with me not swallowed in the sea" is a sort of plea from the guy where he is trying to convince her that she really is meant for him and not the sea of guys she is gaining interest in simply because they are new and exciting. This is a very skewed interpretation of the song and probably not a very good one, but maybe someone who was in my position can relate! |

| P.O.D. – Will You Lyrics | 18 years ago |

I always took this song as being about a girl who continually does sexual things she regrets. The lyrics "Goin’ through the motions And holdin’ onto hopes And a dream now (somehow) Shaken (shaken), mistaken (mistaken), forsaken (forsaken) Its killing me" She's going through the motions of having sex, etc., but it doesn't really mean anything to her. Even though she does it she wishes she could find something better in her life, like a relationship with a guy who actually wants her for her, (holdin onto hopes and dreams). Everytime she gives in to sex she feels deep regret and feels "shaken and mistaken." "Wishing you can change But he’s always been the same If you leave now I’ll drown" The girl is either wishing she can change her behavior or change the guys she hooks up so they actually want to be with her... though she knows it's never been that way. Once the guy leaves her she is once again left to her regretful and shameful thoughts. The chorus is pretty self explanatory; she's mentally pleading to the guy of the moment to actually give a damn about her the next morning. The part in the song that repeats "This time I'm sorry" is perhaps a sort of desperation the girl feels at her disgusting behavior that causes her to apologize to God, or even convince her own self that she really is sorry for being promiscous despite that she continues to do so. |
