| Morrissey – Seasick, Yet Still Docked Lyrics | 15 years ago |
|
Have any of you ever felt so down about yourself and how you present yourself but that you had so much love to give that you still have more to offer than those you view as charming? I thought I had loved a few women in my life but yet sleeping all day hasn't appealed to me since I met my wife. I still remember how I related to this song at many times in my life. The video is pretty neat too. Sort of retro, remembering good times, watching old family videos mixed with close-ups of Morrissey singing. Perhaps remembering good times was before he got to the dock and now he is sick of trying to get his boat out of the harbor? One of my favorites of his. |

| Maybe I should point out also that I think the song is more about being the outsider, not able to express themselves, trying to pursue someone they are interested in. | |

| I definitely think it is Morrissey relating to the outsider. You hear this song and it almost sounds appealing to have no one know who you are. I know I get sick of trying to get people to understand me because they just won't. | |
| Faith No More – King For A Day Lyrics | 18 years ago |

I think this song is more a social commentary making fun of those that are so entrenched in 'polite' society that they would make flamboyant compliments to their host or who would care what they look like when they die. This song is another piece of FnM genius. They even capture how ridiculous it is to be so fake as to root for whomever is winning rather than rooting for your own team. I could be so wrong about this though. I still don't think that this is about spicing up life unless it is someone who woke up saying they want life to be more interesting just to go get plowed at some snobby social. Just my $0.02 |

With the counterfeit overtones, the way FnM satires people being fake or ingenuine .... it biases my opinion. This could be very well about Russia and how they wouldn't move to a capitalistic economy, but I think to me it means more don't get caught up thinking money will make you happy. Invest, seek that calculated life, whatever, but don't confuse the deeper meaning of happiness, that feeling of being authentic, with anything else. My favorite lines are .... And he spent himself Would not listen to us But when he lost his appetite He lost his weight in friends Perhaps that is because I find myself wanting to be this ideal, but now I'm burning out. I feel spent, lost my taste for embracing people for what they are, and now I just want to be left alone. In any case, just my 2 cents. |

| Faith No More – Easy (Commodores cover) Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| Dear John letter from someone who is easy going but sick of the controlling, manipulative bullshit. Nothing more annoying than doing all that you can to make an insatiable someone happy. If you are lucky, you bone up and write your own Dear John. Otherwise you are a sucker, prepared for a life of servitude. | |

I can see how this might be Mike stating that the band is welcome to blame the break up on him. Spousal abuse, not so much but I have never had to deal with abuse in my own family. I see the song as more of the typical piety that is found in a lot of relationships. Person 'A' thinking they are giving everything and that person 'B' just needs to quell their insecurities or whatever and come to the stability that person 'A' has to offer. People like person 'A' really get on my nerves as they are loaded with all the same baggage and insecurities as the rest of us. I want them to know it's me It's on my head I'll point the finger at me It's on my head -- Taking responsibility for a given situation Give it all to you Then I'll be closer -- I give you everything I have (mentally, material possessions) for us to be closer Smiling with the mouth of the ocean And I'll wave to you with the arms of the mountain I'll see you -- I take the mouth of the ocean to be the concept of turbulence, where a river goes into the ocean there are strange undercurrents and conflict in flow, like something once ordered going through a chaotic period -- I take the arms of the mountain to imply some sort of ultimate stability -- combine those two ideas, I am watching you go through this period of chaos and I am up on stable ground trying to show you the way but you are to distant for me to do anything but see you I will let you shout no more It's on my head I'll pick you up from the floor It's on my head I'll let you even the score It's on my head -- I have this pious view of my position in relation to yours, I'll lift you up to where I'm at so you can see that I was originally no better off than you were Give it all to you Then I'll be closer Smiling with the mouth of the ocean And I'll wave to you with the arms of the mountain I'll see you Give the same to me then I'll be closer, closer Give the same to me then I'll be closer, closer Smiling with the mouth of the ocean And I'll wave to you with the arms of the mountain Give the same to me then I'll be closer -- give me your all and we will enjoy this false sense of stability together |

| Faith No More – A Small Victory Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
What is a small victory? One that doesn't matter much. Say you were in an argument with your spouse or family or close friends. This argument is meaningless, say your brother gets to do something you don't or that your spouse wants to argue about the Neo-Nazi right to voice their views... Winning the argument doesn't mean anything and the bad feelings that can come from such arguments are destructive. I was told by an old scout leader once that it is better to be happy than it is to be right. Kind of has deep meaning but doesn't exactly work in a lot of cases where if you always bottle up your opinion you are setting yourself up to explode. So, given what I think a small victory is, I think the song isn't about choosing your battles, but that it is about how ridiculous the battles are in the first place and how what should be avoided is the battle mentality where what should be happening is a free exchange of ideas. |

| Faith No More – Stripsearch Lyrics | 18 years ago |

So, the question we are answering is what does this song mean to you, not the question with such an obvious answer 'Does Faith No More kick ass?' Where the movie 'F for fake' uses some form of Avant Garde style editing and Mr Bungle has as well, I don't see the correlation there as being off-base. Not to mention some of the faking art ideas I get the feel of from other FnM songs.... I think it is about an artist who fakes it questioning his bullshit craft. An artist that isn't really an artist probably feels alone and justifies what they do, maybe even thinking that they are actually creating something when they are either just following the formula or more directly by ripping off other art. Either way, they enjoy the lime-light while they are in it. It's over today The heat is gone Time is gone F for fake -- I made it and am considered a successful artist, regardless of how I fake it. I feel no wrong Hide no wrong I love this place The lights.... Under this face So dry.... -- The lime-light of success is a great place to be Only way to change Give yourself away Don't be ashamed Next in line; close one eye Just walk by -- sell out, there isn't anything wrong with it, justify it by saying that that is what other people do, close an eye to the bad part and step in line for your turn In these days I'm breathing stone, crying stone I'll win this race I'll leave alone, arrive alone Love this place, the lights... Under this face, so dry... -- The ends of success justifies the means of doing what is wrong Stripped to the bone I did no wrong Truth is my name Give yourself away -- Down to the core, I didn't do anything wrong by selling out. |

| Faith No More – Zombie Eaters Lyrics | 18 years ago |

I think it is about the subtle manipulation that happens in co-dependent relationships. One side of the relationship needs to build up the idea that they are helpless with out the other person, sometimes playing into the damsel in distress complex that a lot of guys have, while still dictating how everything should be. I could have a biased opinion on this song though. One of the last serious girlfriends I had hated how this was the song I played for her. After thinking about the lyrics now, I can see why it bugged her. She was incredibly manipulative. The whole 'I smile, then you smile then I'll get mad for a while' -- I hook you and set you up for me to lay into a tantrum so that I can get what I want. I think this song is genius, but I might be applying it incorrectly to my own experiences. |
