| Hmm, I can see how some of the lyrics remind you of None Genesis Evangelion, but I doubt that Metallica wrote this song about the anime. | |

Also, did anybody notice Lars' drum solo toward the end? Even though it was a good drum bit, I could help but chuckle considering how so many people have always bashed him as being a bad drummer. Which is something I've never understood. Sure, he's no Mike Portnoy, but his drumming as always sounded good to my ears (except on St. Anger, of course). |

The middle part, starting at about 6:10, is great. Favorite part of the album. Considering that the lyrics of the album tend to deal mainly with death or being consumed by some evil, this could be a musical interpretation of finding (drum roll, please) redemption at the end of your struggles. The light at the end of the tunnel if you will. |

Sounds like it is about a suicide bomber. Hetfield repeats lines about pulling a pin on a grenade. He also talks about "Crossing that line" which could be referencing how many people in society feel that suicide bombings are taboo but this person is willing to go that far. Plus, the narrator implies that he is intentionally inflicting pain and suffering on everyone. Great song from a great album. My expectations were completely blown away. |

| Dream Theater – Pull Me Under Lyrics | 18 years ago |

Okay, this may seem like a bit of a stretch, but . . . I think that the song is about the crucifiction of Christ. The "clouds roll by . . . Arrows fly . . ." is Christ seeing the world slowly fade away from him as he's dying on the cross. The "Pull me under I am not afraid" is Christ acknowledging that he is ready to die and carry his father's work. "Only until your will is done" is a reference to when Jesus prayed to God saying that if there was any other way for the salvation of man to come about let that happen instead but he only wanted an escape if it was God's will. Lastly, "All I can do is set it right" is Christ saying how, at that point, the only thing to do is to pass on and bring about the salvation of man from sin. Now, I am pretty sure that was not Kevin Moore's intentions, but that was the image I got in my head when I heard this song. Absolutely love it by the way. Great way to start off the album. |

I heard the "faggot's just cause as well", but yeah, Dream Theater wouldn't write that in their lyrics. The only problem I have with the song is the part where Labrie says "The only thing that I believe will help us see this through is faith" considering that religous faith is what started the whole mess to begin with. Unless perhaps he meant faith in humanity and the hope that cooler heads will eventually pervail in the end. |

The intro riff to this song sounds so bad ass; one of Petrucci's best. The lyrics are pretty straightforward. |

Yeah, I was thinking along the lines of a succubus as well. The lyrics were alright, but I didn't like the song in general. No disrespect to John and James, but the way the main riff and the chorus are played out reminds me way too much of bands like Hinder. This was the only song on the album I didn't like (the rest of it was great). |
