I just bought the album today and I've sung this song at the top of my lungs about 8 times! Its obviously about a break up - they broke up and she's really not over it. But I don't think the guy is gone - but she's talking about dealing with people she knows like her friends and family. Those are the hardest to face after a break up. I personally love the line "Whenever I see you I will swallow my pride and bite my tongue." That is the hardest thing to do when you see that person is to act like you are okay when your heart is broken... |

| I've always loved this song but now it means soo much more. I just found out my ex (the first guy i ever fell for) is now engaged. I will the first to admit I will never be completely over him. And I actually sent him a text earlier today that said " I hear congratulations are in order" When his best friend (which i'm still really close to) asked me how i felt i just told him that I was happy for my ex...and he saw right through it but that's because the new girl is horrible. I think this song is just a song about death - whether it be about a father or grandfather. I do definately thinkt he "she" is a mother. the line "you just dont' see me anymore" suggests that you just feel invisible in the middle of everything. Nothing matters at all because the one thing that did matter is gone. The verse "And, oh at the wake, at the wake I will turn to see a face Just a face, just a face So surrounded by a name What a name, wha a name And we never want to change What you gave, what you gave Never wanna let go So surround me I need anything and You're verything I want to live like I did Before all this hit To sleep in your arms To think we'll never fall apart And oh" is absolutely ingenius. It goes through my head all the time now because my grandpa just passed away from cancer and i swear i see his face in places and hope that i'll never forget him. Love this song. |

This will always be my favorite Kelly Clarkson song. The first time I heard it I cried the entire time because this is EVERYTHING I went through when my parents divorced. My dad cheated and my mom became somewhat unstable and leaned on me. I made her listen to it and she just broke down because she had no idea how close it hit to home. It's amazing! |

You guys are putting an entirely new spin on the song for me. This is my interpretation~ The narrator and this guy were friends before he left. He went away and met this woman but the narrator was in love with him before he even went. He brought this woman back and she and the narrator became friends. But the first bit of the song *beginning until tiny face* is the narrator talking to herself - just move on, get a job, keep going on so you dont have to think about what could happen, but what if he loves me? does he love me? From that you go on to the next verse of him realizing that he love the narrator and she is happy that this has happened but now has become friends with his wife. The wife was just in it to be in it and always felt that she wasn't herself if she was with someone but felt like she her time was running out. Sadly though she actually fell in love with him and they have the baby. And when the wife hears the call she's going on to call his friend. The narrator can't help but feel guilty because she is the other woman and befriended the wife as a way to keep the husband in her life but now she is wrapped up in it all. The only way to cut all ties is to realize her fate and she is flawed if she isn't free. And when she tells the wife "your husband will never leave you for me" she is acknowleding that he will never actually be hers. I know that is a bit of a stretch but I've known it to happen. But it is just another perspective. |

This is my favorite song on the whole album! It is all about being the other woman who loves him... She hates that she fell for him but the "tears dry on their own" time will get her over this. She'll move on and stupidly just keep on doing this to herself... |

I've been this girl. It's a guy and a girl that can't stay off of each other. He's with somebody else but it never fails every time they are together they always seem to hook up. The line "I wanna touch you but that just hurts" sort of signifies the idea that he's not just a friend but there are real feelings for him. I wish it didn't hit so close to home. Because I've asked the guy "why can't we JUST be friend?" And someone we end up in bed together... |
