| Envy on the Coast – If God Smokes Cheap Cigars Lyrics | 18 years ago |

definitely questioning God, this song is very easy to understand "If it was written in THAT book (bible) All the answers to the questions (of doubt that he has) Maybe we'd find the time to read it before we die" Even if all the answers to the questions he has about religion were written in plain view in the bible he still would "MAYBE find the time to read it" his disbelief in God and Jesus is so strong he won't start to worry until he dies. He kind expresses some doubt that i think even many christians are afraid to admit to having. i dont agree with everything he says but its a good song... much respect haha |

so far my favorite song on "lucy gray". i actually havent been a fan for but like 4 days now, just read about these guys in Alternative Press this week and gave 'em a listen. "I don't deserve your tears, anymore than you deserve the fears that I have LEFT you with" hinting that they're not in the same place (maybe one has died). "Widowed, and a little less faithful, She let's the sidewalks sympathize With every step she takes" ...as if he has died. "So tell your brothers and sisters to wait" throws me off though because that makes it sound like she's the one who died and has brothers and sisters in heaven or something. "I am the aisle in the back beside the votive light" Votive light can often represent the loss of a loved one. Maybe he is at her funeral? I know the song was obviously inspired by the day of the dead but i dont think its literally supposed to take place at those events. I kinda agree with spotless_mind that maybe it just symbolizes their relationship has died. badass song |

i agree, its simplicity cuts to the point but definitely remains poetic Those who dam streams can build fountains Those of us who just let them run free Can move mountains good stuff |

| The Strokes – Ize of the World Lyrics | 18 years ago |

i love this song! the end is beautiful when hes singing all of the "ize"ed words like normal and then screams "fury to tranquilize" and goes straight back to monotone singing. his voice depicts an image in your mind of fury even if he wasnt actually yelling the word "fury" |

its about a girl he only meets drunk and doesnt ever remember him. she was throwing up everywhere and making a fool out of herself so he is taking her to his house. "shes got the photos but no recollection hes got the motive but no transportation..." and then "purely courteous across her chest" i think reffers to him buckling her seatbelt. "turn away your head what do i deserve instead" sayin turn your head, ive been taking care of you the least i deserve is for you to not throw up on me. "we're offereing nothing but the best accomidations" theyve got to his house and this is simply what hes telling her. "its nothing personal youre an embarassment" we left that party because you were embarrasing and shitfaced |
